I finally purchased a Ruger with Bisley grip in 45 Colt just to see what all the fuss was about. So far, I don't like it. What's the purpose? My other Ruger SAA's with standard grip frames are all pleasing to the hand. The Bisley is not.

Fits me perfectly. I do not care for the plowhandle handle at all.
Rod, too.

That Bisley may be your best friend when recoil gets heavy. It is almost double-action like in that it tends to come straight back into your hand unlike the various plow handles. The Bisley (at least for me) greatly increases control when recoil rears its head.

For me, I have always kind of appreciated the way the regular grips roll gently in my hand. Having shot many hot loads I never felt recoil was an issue. When I fired the Bisley I felt it immediately.
Does my technique need addressing? I've never had any accuracy problems.

I have a 45 Colt Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter and the 45 Colt Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter. If you like the Bisley, the aftermarket grips are limited.
I know that John Linebaugh recommends having the Bisley if you want a 475 or 500 Linebaugh conversion.
I will stick with the 45 Colt with the plow handle

I like the Bisley. But I would try both. One will feel better in your hand and that is the one for you to buy.

Does my technique need addressing? I've never had any accuracy problems. When you move up in calibers/hotter loads, there is no gentle roll. Even my .45 Colt loads I wouldn't want to shoot with a plow handle grip.

It really is your choice and your hands do the holding so pick what works for you. I have both but none wear the stock grips. All wear Pachmayers, Hogues or custom grips[Bisley]. If Pachmayr or Hogue made grips for the Bisley it too would have a set.

I will give this more testing & definite consideration due to this input. I am about to shift gears in my handgun loads and add bullet weight & throw some more coal in the boiler. My heaviest load thus far has been 255 LSWC & 250 XTP's with 25 gr.'s of IMR 4227. I want to get into some 300+ grain bullet tests.

If Pachmayr or Hogue made grips for the Bisley These are Hogue, oversized, made fatter up top where it counts:
Rod, too.

The SBH hunter plow handle is a grip all its own. I love it! Like a cross between standard and bisley.

I did not generally like the way single actions felt until I picked up a Bisley! I would even get the Ruger Single-Six 22LR in Bisley! It just feels like a much better grip to actually hold on to compared to the plow handle. I have heard more than once that the Ruger rendition of the Bisley grip is one of the closer approximations to the grip on the Elmer Keith #5. Since I have not ever picked up a #5, I can't comment.

i dont like the feel of the Bisley. having said that .429 240 grain at about 1200 or so dose all i need. sometimes i think about a 5 shot 45, then i would make it a Bisley, then i say to myself why bother, the .429.....

I agree, having shot both, bisleys feel weird to me. And i have shot heavy loads. I always wanted a bisley because they look cool, but after shooting a friends, i forgot that notion. To each his own!

I don't like redhawks either, too bulky on the top end. I have Colt troopers and a python and love to shhot them. All guns feel different to all users. I do not like rubber grips on pistols, for the most part. But i have had to set the pistol on the bench and shake the pain out of my hand at times.

The "roll" is why I sold my SBHH. That and I shot a SRH.... The hammer would bite me near my thumb when I pushed heavier rounds through it. I gues I just couldnt grip it tight enough to stop it. I picked up a Bisley later, only because it was in the form of a SBHH in .45 colt (I mean.....I had to.......right?) So far I can see some differences with the Bisley as far as felt recoil, but I haven't shot that much out of it. I would like to try a plow handle with the Huntington grip frame extension as well.

I would like to try a plow handle with the Huntington grip frame extension as well. I think you may like that one the best. I know I do. All of the pluses and none of the minuses. I have .45 Colt loads (335s at 1,365+) that you wouldn't want to shoot with a plow handle.

I'm just saying,as you yourself put it "the .44 magnum doesn't need to be loaded to the firewall to be effective". You are right of course, however, when recoil starts climbing into the uncomfortable regions, I feel the Bisley offers more control. That said, the .44 doesn't need to be redlined to be effective, but I feel the .44 Magnum deserves to be respected and not turned into a .44 Special -- LOL!

I agree. But for those who dislike the Bisley grip should keep the loads reasonable. I prefer the Bisley but I do like both.

And btw I love the 44 special. With a Keith or Skeeter load it's plenty potent and from a magnum revolver it's pretty mild to shoot

I don't think so... I couldn't get all my fingers on my standard SBH.(had to go pinky under grip) The SBHH seem a fair bit bigger. I can grab a handful of grip and let it rip!

The SBH hunter plow handle is a grip all its own. I love it! Like a cross between standard and bisley. It is my understanding that it is the standard dragoon-style SBH grip with a rounded trigger guard (in and of itself an improvement). forgot to hit the quote button before i replied. See above comment. Thanks MN
