Well, we’re getting closer to blackies over bait. I’ve been trying to do this for a few years. Didn’t make it out Bear Baiting the last 2 years. Year before was my first try. Over the past couple weeks my buddy, his 18yo boy and myself managed to get some bait in the woods. I started off with a 55gal drum full of popcorn and “leftovers” from a friends beehive.

Got it set out and chained up, got a stand up in a tree and ranged it at 33yds. Perfect shot for the 45 Colt BisHunter, 2X Weaver and 355gr LBT WFN at 1200fps. Heck, I can make that shot standing offhand with one eye closed

I had also hung some stink bait. Let it set a few days, went back out and the logs I had stuffed in the feed hole were pulled out and it was half empty plus a big pile I had on the ground was basically gone. Got a hit! Since the site wasn’t all tore up it appears to have been a blackie. Griz tear things up all to h311.

I refilled it from this batch I had packed in with me. Nice tasty morsels for Pooh Bear!

My buddies bait was hit hard by a griz. Drum was dented up/partially crushed, whole area was tore up, etc. He got some pics on his game came but the angle was off some so we can’t see the whole bear but we can see his/her back, hump, neck (or rather lack thereof) and head with little ears. Seems to be a pretty good sized Interior Griz. Can’t shoot griz over bait yet in this area. But, next year you can. I should have my 500L by then! Game cam said he hit it last Saturday night a 7. We were out Tuesday. We’re hoping he’s moved on. Buddy and son are bowhunting. I need to get one of those GameCams for this kind of huntin.

Were headed out tomorrow night to sit in our stands all night. Pray in a couple Boars if you’re a praying man! If not, give it a shot anyway

FYI, it’s light all night here this time of year. Here’s some pics I took on the way home the other night at about 11pm in the Land of the Midnight Sun. You can see Denali (Mt. McKinley) in the one, it's about 250-300 miles away. Massive Mountain.

Those last two pictures are beautiful. Hunting in Alaska is definitely on my bucket list.

If you're looking for a good trail camera, I highly recommend a Moultrie.

Cool pics,I'll offer up a nice boar prayer for y'all. What's the bait restrictions,if any? Ours is no processed sugars. Can't sit over bait yet here but we can use bait to train hounds. Hunting over bait is coming though.

Sounds like it's getting exciting! I can wait till this fall myself.

We can use pretty much anything for bait. Gotta clean it all up though by the end of season. June 30

You MAY:
-place bait at only two bait stations at the same time. All bait must be biodegradable. The parts of fish and game that may be legally used as bait are heads, bones, guts, skin or other parts of legally taken game not required to be salvaged (see current Alaska Hunting Regulations). In Units 7 and 15, fish or fish parts may not be used for bait.
-You may also use scent lures, but only with a baiting permit.

Good luck Perry. We have 25 days left here and hoping the bears will leave the town area to shoot them.

It's been dry in the Interior so bugs haven't been that bad. Until this week that is, we've got some rain and now it supposed to be in the 70's. The hatch is on!

I figured your guys bugs would be all burned up by the fire or at least smoked out. How's the fire affecting you?

Good Luck on your bear hunt,

If you still have time, there is a product from Boarmasters which is a bait additive, it is a no BS item. I had bears on my bait 30 minutes after applying it last season, and it is cheaper then cool- aid, tang, ect.
