I have a 35 Rem barrel but never really shot much with it but it's a very capable cartridge.

That's really too bad. I feel sorry for you. It is obsolete and worthless. That's why I killed my first Elk with one. It was a Super 14, 2x Leupold and load was a very stiff charge of H322 (JD Jones chastized me for the load )under a Hornady 200gr spire point. I took teh 5x4 broadside at a little over 140 yards-while he was bugling! The bullet performed very well. Entered just behind left shoulder, but a little high (I thought) took out a rib, both lungs, broke 2 ribs on off-side and stuck in the hide. As it turned out, the slight down angle of teh shot allowed for the top of the heart to be blown off. The bull managed to go about 200 yards, but the meadow and entrace to the timber looked like a butcher shop. I had the hunt written up in Colorado Outdoors in 1990, and The Sixgunner the same year. The 35 Rem is a good one and a keeper. Thats why I just gave my 3rd one to Dan B. on this site. I still have my Herrett. 35 Calibers are way under rated, and I think the 35 Rem is most of all . As I recall, H322 and 4198 are good ones for it. I'll bet the 180's are awesome too. God Luck.

I'm on my second .35 Rem now...the first really liked 180gr Hornady SSPB's and H335...it shot that load awesome!! I've loaded some for the latest .35 Rem with IMR4064 and 180gr SSPB's as well as the H335 load from the other barrel.

I bought mine about 3 years ago a real good round. You will here people talk about misfires but thats not a problem if you size brass right.I shot a deer season before last with mine it dropped in its tracks. The 35"s are a good caliber I have 5 of them.

The H335 load was only found in one manual...I think it was Speer or something. Anyhoo...I max'ed out at 38gr so start back around 33gr and work up. It has a pretty good blast but shoots wonderful! I have not yet fired the IMR4064 loads but I started them at 37gr and loaded to 40gr...but think the manual went to 42gr for the max.

When sizing be careful not to push the shoulder back...that gets you the misfires.

H322 is a good powder in the 35 rem....good speeds with a lot less muzzle flash than some of the typical powders used in rifle loads. #6 grains and a 180 SSP will put deer sized critters on the ground fast out to 200 yards or so. I used a stiff charge of H322 and a 200 gr. Rem corloct to take an elk a few years ago. Pistolbullets can be used as well in the 35 Rem. Sierra's 170 gr power jacket HP and Rem 180 gr. HP are also good deer bullets at 35 rem speeds from the 14 inch tube. I have a .358 Bullberry that is the 375 win case necked to 35 cal and is basically a rimmed 35 rem. It is one of my favorite deer and hog guns. I really do not understand the reason the 35 calibers are not more popular as they are a bit better mousetrap in my thinking.
