I want to get a new 375 JDJ barrel for my contender. My question is should I get it from SSk (costs more) or from the custom shop at Thompson Center? And what type of rings/bases should I consider? Thanks for the advice.

SSK makes some nice stuff, also might want to try OTT. I have never heard anything bad about this guy. If you got the time to wait , he will make you one badass barrel. I put his link below.

If you intend to hunt with it and not necessarily impress your friends then the TC barrel will be all you'll need.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with them.

Custom barrels offer options that TC can't offer but often those options are only "frills" and "real hunters" usually don't want frills.

They usually want accuracy, reliability, reasonably good looks, and a good value for their buck. TC is kind of like Remington only in the single shot world.

If you go the custom route you'll find several barrel makers that can accomodate you.

Their products cost significantly more and often performance isn't necessarily any better.

But!!! You can have it YOUR WAY and you can by golly have it look so dang good that all your friends will be quite impressed!

WELCOME!!

You can get a blue 14" from TC without going thru their custom shop.

Prolly retails about 200$.

I have one in 23" and shoots VERY well with my homemade bullets. It wears Burris weaver base and Burris Signature rings.

I bought the factory G2 with the 375jdj as my first entry into single shot pistols and I have been nothing short of impressed, I use leupold mount and rings with a bushnell elite 3200 2x6 and after a couple of outings to dial in the right handload I was shooting 4" groups @ 250yds off the bench, and I am not what you would call a gifted handgunner but I do love them.

Thanks for the replys. One of the reasons I thought about a custom barrel was having a muzzle brake installed. Since the biggest caliber I have is a 30 Harrett, I thought a 375 JDJ might need some taming.

Unless I'm mistaken you should be able to get a brake on a TC barrel if you ask for it. It's called a "Hunter" if it has a brake on it.

I got a new 375 from T/C a few months ago and I really like it.It is plenty accurate for me.I am still playing with loads but its not not real picky about what I feed it.I loaded some 265 hadrcast with gas checks over some Reloader 15 powder I had. They shot one ragged hole here at my house (40 yards)I will go to the range next week.
