Well, I toyed with the idea of a .500 S&W. But, decided I didn't like any of the platforms available for that cartridge. So, I started doing a little research and started considering the .45 Colt. I finally came to the realization, though, that it wasn't much different that my current .44 Mags. Enter the next option............ The .454 Casull. Topped her with a 4x Weaver Pistol Scope. She will be my sub 150 yrd hammer. I really like the heft and size of this handgun. The X-Frame Smiths are just too big. This one, with a 7.5" barrel, still feels like a revolver and maintains her portability. I considered the 9.5" barrel version, but decided that I had my Specialty Pistols for that kind of size. I have dies, primers, and 200 cases ready to go. Just need to get my bullets. Of which I plan to use 100 cases for 300gr Hardcast-GC from a friend................and 100 cases for these 350gr WFN-GC bullets. http://www.mattsbullets.com/index.php?ma...7e21fdb30d4fa44I am considering getting some Pau Ferro wood grips for her, as I am not fond of the rubber grip look. But, it has been suggested that I shoot her first and see how painful she's gonna be with the heavy loads. Then, I'll make my decision. Although, I've considered using the rubber Hogue grips for load work and then letting her wear the wood grips the rest of the time for hunting and such. So, the Beast live!! Long live the Beast!

The 454 is one of my all time favorites. You'll love it. I never found the use for the super heavy slugs in the Casull. It's really happy at 260-300 grains. If I want something heavier, I go up in bore size. Good luck with it!!

I guess I should have been clearer and said that the accuracy was ok but not what the 260-300 grainers will give in MY gun (10" FA) The barrel twist on yours may be different also which could help with the heavier slugs as well. Hope they do well for you. I went up to 335s and the accuracy was ok but the 260s will shoot very tiny groups at 150 yards from the bench so I've just stayed with them in that particular gun. Let us know how it does!

Good looing revolver! Remember it doesn't have to be pushed full throttle all the time. You can back off a little and have a very fun gun to shoot that performs like a .44.

Let us know how it does! I should clarify as well, that accuracy is of greater importance to me than a large chunk of lead flying haphazardly through the air. If I'm unable to attain acceptable accuracy with the 350 grain bullets..........I'll abandon them for something more useable. The Ruger comes with a 1-24" twist rate. What was your twist that was unable to provide the accuracy you wanted? Hopefully not the same as mine..........or I might be screwed.

Not an X-Frame fan. If I'm going to use something the size of a Specialty Pistol..........I'll just use a Specialty Pistol with a capable chambering. My thinking, at least.

Agreed I have no clue what the twist is from FA. I never put a lot of efforts in working with those big slugs in the 454 though. But with others, I've never in the last 15 years found a bad load. From 1150 fps loads with 255 grainers to 1625 fps with 300 grainers. All have shot one hole groups at extended ranges. The 260 FA bullet at just over 1900 fps is downright amazing :). You will be thrilled, just remember what the other guy mentioned too.......keep it fun. It's very effective on the lower end also. Hahaha

Hmmmmmm, does that mean the 350gr bullets are designed for a different cartridge other than the .454 Casull?
Maybe I will call the company and see if they recommend the 350s for the Casull or not.

I have shot 400 grain bullets out of my first SRH in .454 with absolutely acceptable accuracy. 360s as well.

Checking the net and a couple reloading manuals twist rate for a 454 Casull is 1/24''..0nly exception is MOA which is 1/14''.. SW 460 is 1/20''..

The Hodgdon Manual has load data for 360gr bullets as well as 395gr (I believe), so, they obviously work to some extent in the cartridge.
We're gonna give them a try.
