It is looking like I will be getting a used Ruger Blackhawk in 45 colt soon. I already have one in that round so I want to eventually send it off to Gary Reeder or similar to have it made into a fast, flat shooting low recoil revolver. What I would like to know is what caliber you guys might suggest. Gary Reeder has the 255 Banshee which is what I am leaning towards right now but faster and flatter would be even better. I appreciate any input you custom revolver guys have.

I don't really have any ideas, but I like the thought of having one. I have come close to just buying a .30 Blackhawk and putting it to use as one, but have never done it. I have a couple of Bisley 357's with the 7.5 barrel and I use one that is set up for 150gr bullets for my varmint revolver, but the range on varmints in Ga is pretty close and it is in no way comparable to a caliber like you are thinking of...but it does pretty good out to 75yds...better than my old eyes will do.
At any rate, sounds like fun and hope that you hit on what you really want.

yote,
22 Rem Jet Improved. Solves the setback problems with the original Jet, very similar to the Freedom Arms 224/32 ( 327 Fed necked to 22 ). Can make brass from plentiful 357 Mag brass.

I have a ss sbh with a 10" barrel. All I would like is a round trigger guard and no warning on the barrel. Better sights, a stag grip. Everything else is perfect. It shoots the 300 xt's in the second groove with no issues. Just a great gun.

yote,
That is correct. It maintains a straight taper and the shoulder angle varies from 25' to 40' depending upon the wildcatter. The original has a long tapered shoulder that can result in case setback against the firewall, binding the cylinder. I rechambered a BFR 22 Hornet to make mine. Have another BFR Hornet available.

What is the COAL of that? Can spitzer type bullets be loaded or are they too long for the cylinder?

I have a Coyote Classic chambered in 218 Mashburn Bee. I recommend the Mashburn Bee over the standard 218 Bee as the straight case will give you less problems than the tapered case of the factory Bee. I achieved velocities close to 2600 fps. with 40 grain bullets using Lil'Gun, but accuracy was not good. I settled on a load using AA1680 traveling at 2200 fps. I have since switched to a 34 grain FBHP using 2400 powder. This load will do 2420 fps. and I can get 1" groups at 50 yards if I do my part. Sighted in at 50 yards, it is still dead on at 100 yards and 3" low at 150 yards.

Ok, not custom by any stretch, but I have a Taurus Tracker with an 8" barrel in .17hmr. Not the fanciest gun, only 200 otd from a little pawn shop. But this thing is point blank with iron sites out to 110 yards. .17hmr's are cheap and available. If you goal it to get a new and fancy gun, this isn't the answer, but the varmint on the receiving end won't know the difference.

Seems like one of the guys has a 22K Hornet that is a take driver.
