I have been playing with the 360gr Oregon Trail bullet for .45s and .454s. Using the data worked up by Brian Pierce in my 4 5/8" gun with 1gr less than he got to using 296 I am getting an honest 1247fps. I can't wait to aim it at a critter. Looks like it is going to be accurate as well. reflex264

refflex, I like the heavies especially in the 4 5/8 bl. For my guns the accuracy was better in the shorter barrels than the longer ones, with heavy 300gr+ projectiles. I got 1240's chrono'ed with the 350 bullet from Penn, and the 360s I tried from OTB ran in the 1230's. Looks like you got a few more fps with 296 than I did with H110. Good luck on the critter whacking.

Those 360's have way too much run-out for me. Run out of front sight height, and run out of room for the sight in my leather ;^)
Looking forward to results, as it seems the OT get less press time as actual hunting bullets, compared to a few other brands. I never worried about hardness, but brittleness always sticks in the back of my wondering mind.

That's impressive really. I just got a 4 5/8" Blackhawk .45, although I don't have any 360gr bullets at this time. I do have some 355gr coming from Beartooth to try in the BFR 454 and maybe the Blackhawk too. What's the charge wt. of 296 if you don't mind me asking?
The warmest load I've shot through the 4 5/8" Blackhawk is a 330gr Beartooth WFNPB that averaged 1310 fps.
