I copied this from another post about her. This explains a little more of what she went through.

Ella was crushed between two trucks 5 years ago. The impact was so great that it left her imprint in the bed of one of the trucks. She was in Vanderbilt ICU for months followed by rehab in Atlanta. The doctors that treated her said she would be a vegitable. They began to put up signs all over Lincoln Co that simply said pray for Ella. It brought the whole community together. I have known her ever since she came into the world. It tore our hearts out to see her in the shape she was in. But the whole time prayers were headed to One that had the last word. Miraculously with a huge part of her brain destroyed she ragained everything but her sight. She has very limited sight. She can see detail at just under 12". She sees shadows and uses them to navigate. She wanted to hunt just like her dad so we have that worked out. I was blessed to hold her and guide her aim on her first deer. Her uncle did the same on her deer last year. Her father was unable to be there for either of those events. Thankfully he was able to be with her for her first pig. We are all so proud of her and so thankful that the Lord has blessed us through her.

GOD has certainly blessed her and her supporting cast.

Great story that should be an inspiration to all of us.

I say a prayer for all of the folks on forums that I frequent that ask for or are in need for whatever reason...Ella will be added to the list.

Thanks for what y'all have done to help her and thanks for sharing a little piece of it with us.

GOD bless Ella.

Whenever I read this story, I can't help but think back to all the times I decided against going hunting for some silly reason. For example, several times I stayed in bed instead of going on a morning hunt because I wanted to sleep in that day. Other times, I don't go because the weather's too cold, or too wet, or I'm somewhat tired. You know, trivial reasons at best.

Then we have Ella here, who in spite of a disability that would keep 99.9% of people out of the woods permanently, still forges on. And she's been successful. Shoot, that second buck of hers is bigger than any whitetail I've ever even seen.

Kind of makes you realize that some of our "problems" aren't really that big a deal after all.

I am fixing her up a new rifle. With the new set up we should be able to get 100 yards. I can't wait to see how she does with it. She says she wants to duck hunt. Haven't got that one figures out yet. Any suggestions? reflex264

First, could you explain how you and her uncle help her aim with a rifle?

First off I built a tri-pod rest with a large u-shaped pocket for the rifle to rest in. This serves several purposes.First is safety. Since she can't see what the rifle is pointed at it stays in the holder with the butt stock against her shoulder. It is placed in the direction that we have already determined to be safe first and optimum deer travel route second. Whoever is her spotter sets on her left side (she is right handed) so we can reach the tri-pod with our left hand and using our right arm and hand around her shoulder we usualy grip the top of the butt stock. This allows us to raise or lower the butt end of the rifle for elevation. We have her trained to know that if we start moving the butt stock left or right, up or down that she moves with it. she grips the pistol grip on the stock but doesn't put her finger in the trigger gaurd until we tell her to. She first presses her finger all the way to the front of the gaurd then eases it back till it makes contact. We undue the safety once we are sure that she is going to shoot. We move her until the laser is in the kill zone then tell her now.

On her first deer it was much easier because she was only about 4'3". She is about 5'7" now. When we had to change direction on the first deer I just picked her up and moved her. She is too big for that now so prep work has become much more important.

Her dad finally got to help her a few weeks ago on her hog hunt. There is no jealousy among er three sets of eyes. We are strickly about helping her and don't care which one does it. If you are thinking of doing something similar we can take pics of our set up so you can get a better ideal of how it works. reflex264

I should add we are using a laser as a aiming device. I wasn't sure if you already knew that. reflex264

Okay, the lazer idea was pretty smart.

I think the same set up could be used for duck hunting if the ducks were shot off the water. The lazer would just scare the ducks off, so another aiming system is needed. What if you somehow attached a video camera to the top of the shotgun in line with the rib. When the time comes to shoot, the camera would be turned on and her dad/uncle could assist her in aiming by watching the little screen on the camera.

I don't know, what do you think?

It's possible. We have looked at the iscope as a possibility.

I had to look up the iscope, but I think that's a much better idea. Couple the adapter with a low power scope or dot sight and you'll be set.
