I have a 7 1/2" Super Redhawk 480 with a leupold scope and I'm having trouble finding a many holster options for it. Maybe I don't know what exactly to look for though. I would prefer a hip holster and I'd like it to be leather. Are there any options besides going custom?

A scoped SRH is way too big for a hip holster in my opinion. I have a scoped 9 1/2" SRH and carry it in an Uncle Mike's Bandoleer Holster. Used it for many years. If you don't like the UM, there are others.

Hip holster with a scope will be a bit difficult to find IMO. I use a 7x Leather chest rig for my SRHs with Ultradots and couldn't be happier. Reasonably priced and first rate in every respect. The proprietor of 7x Leather is a member here as well.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I like that rig Whit, I guess comfort is the biggest thing for me because of how much land I tend to carry while hunting. Those chest rigs just seem a little obtrusive to me. I have never worn one though.

I used a rig from Pistol Packing which included a Bandito shoulder belt (which I never used). I used this for my scoped SRH during my 15 day hunt in South Africa. I used the holster as a crossdraw of sorts but the problem was that they placed the keeper over the hammer on the outside of the leather vs. the inside leather. This allowed the leather to flop open as the trip continued. I cut a new hole and relocated the strap to the "inside" which worked out great. Plus I did put a hole in the "end" of the leather and tied it so that the muzzle wouldn't come out the end.

Anyway, I didn't find the SRH too heavy on a *good* belt.

Not heavy, bulky and unwieldy. I have been hunting off and on with SRHs for a long time and never found them too heavy. I think with an optic, a 7.5-inch SRH on the belt would be rather bulky (for lack of a better term).

To the OP, a good chest rig is the least obtrusive set up I think I have ever used. They are actually quite ergonomic.

My SRH is 9 1/2" and chest holster or sling is the only way I can move it around the woods.

Would you guys mind posting pictures of your chest rigs? I'm off of the belt idea. I'm looking at the Galco Kodiak as possibly my top option as of right now. Thanks for the advice guys.
