So they say fast burn powder for light bullets and slow burn powder for heavy bullets. So how is the Barnes 325 gr. rated for the 500 Mag..My powders are lil gun, h110 and imr 4227.

Any of them will work, Hodgies says lil gun fastest but not enough to matter.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

You still need to try all three to see what your gun likes as it will show a preference for one over the others most times. I work up in half grain increments starting at the lowest weight.
Sometimes you hit it right off the bat, sometimes you have to work for it.

If you go to Hodgdon's website they will have the data. Being you have all three of those I'd load up a few with each powder at the average of min/max according to Hodgies data and see if one shows more promise than the others. I am kinda partial to H110, but also use lil gun.

First off thanks all for info.My main issue that i'm working with 42 H110,325 Barnes and seems fine to 75 yds but when I bumped up to 100 yds it was wide group.I went ahead and loaded some 43 and 44 and will shoot them this weekend to see if this helps. I'm still learning and just need to know if hotter load will help are hurt.

That's the load I use in my 6" Smith. It shoots great, even at 100.
I use 38.0 gr. WW296 (same as 110) in my 10" Raging Bull with 375 gr. Xs and get 2-3" at 100.
Your experiences could be gun preference, heat, humidity, heat of barrel. I've had the same problems with other guns. Unfortunately, you have to play around. I wouldn't go hotter. I've never seen max and beyond do better than near max.

I do know a number of things come into play. I never had the time these past weekend too shoot to see what was gone on. I did look on net about bullet flight and still need to read up some more. I loaded up some hotter thinking this might be it but maybe not who know's. I even loaded up some with some imr 4227 and i'll try these too never know until i shoot them. It's not like I'm shooting a 44 with thousands of info on loads these is a 500 mag. P/C 10 1/2" barrel and i'll just have to put the time in and the $ and time will tell. Boy my 41 was a lot easier to sight in. Thanks again for ya'll time and wish me luck i think i'm gonna need it on this gun.

The .500 is a big step up from the .41 mag and has its own learning curve for shooting groups. The big bores are the toughest to shoot little groups with and require a lot of concentration and good form. A good repeatable grip is a must especially at longer ranges. I find that my groups suffer if I shoot too many shots at a time. Fatigue and lapses in consentration cause my groups to spread, and the big bores are the worst about this. Try shooting only one 5 or 6 shot group at a time with some .22 practice in between groups. This gives my nerves and hands time to settle down and helps me.

Hey Junebug thanks for the info. I've been doing a lot of research on big boar guns and you hit it must of them say limit you shooting time and slow down. I also think I was just shooting too much. I was shooting about 25 to 35 shots per setting. I guess I just wanted too have it sight in for long shoots. I think I'm gonna limit my shooting to 10 shots with 3 to 5 min between. After all I do reload but it still not a cheap gun to shot so I want every shoot to count. Once again thanks all for the info awesome sight to get info and lessons from experience pepole.
