How short of a barrel have you scoped? I have seen some 4 5/8s, has anyone scoped a shorter one?

I have a 4 5/8" FA in 22LR/22WMR scoped up and love it. I have contemplated scoping my kids' Walther P22 (3.5" I believe) with a 2X Leupold just to give a different look, but haven't sold myself on it yet. If I do I will let you know.

Any trouble with blast and glass at end of scope?

Wouldn't an ultradot or fastfire Burris work or are you set on a scope. They would be a simpler, shorter setup and should fit on the gun instead of sticking out past the barrel.Seems like gasses pushing up on the end of the scope plus faster recoil forces from the shorter, lighter gun would put severe strain on the base srews.

Any trouble with blast and glass at end of scope? It was not as bad as I expected....

It's one thing to scope a short barreled gun to see what it's capable of from an accuracy POV but to me, and this is just my opinion, you lose the benefit of a short barreled gun once you bulk it up with a scope. Small reflex sights like the Trijicon RMR or Leupold - ok. My short guns are all open sights my long-barrel guns all have scopes. Again - just my preference.

In 1982 I had a 10.5" RSB 44 cut off to 4.5" for a belt gun. Shortly after that I mounted a 2x Leupold scope on it and gave it to my dad. He shot several deer with it plus quite a few varmints while in his 60s and older. He is 84 now and can still shoot it with reduced loads. It is great for offhand at 50, 60 yards. An awesome woods gun. Easier to get on moving game than a T/C. Very easy to carry in a belt holster.
