I'm brand new to reloading and in need of info. I own a Ruger SRH in 454 Casull. with a 7.5 inch barrel. Any who would like to share their favorite bullets and loads would be greatly appreciated. Most of my shots are taken at 50 yds. or less but, I often take deer around 100 yds. I've checked loads on this site but, find them pretty tame, ala 44 mag. I believe in using my revolver at it's full potential when hunting, hence the caliber choice. If I wanted 44 mag ballistics then, I'd load them for target shooting. I'm not knocking the 44, it's awesome, just not my choice for big game. So, try not to be a hater but, a helper. I tip my hat to all that respond and say a hearty thank you... Greg.

32 to 34 gr of H110 and a 300 gr Speer or xtp mag bullet for around 1500 fps. Speer manuel # 13.
Most of us have figured out that you don't need to shoot 3 feet into the dirt on the other side of the deer to kill him .L.O.L J.M.H.O.

Junebug is giving a good starting point to working up a load using H110. W296 could be substituted for the 110. I normally run 33.5 grs. with a 260gr. and in Texas with our summer heat I can load those with out fear of a load that's too hot. Start about 10% of the max in the manual and work up from there.

I use 28.7 gr of h110 under a stiff crimp on an aframe 325 gr hollowpoint. Its what i use the world over on nearly everything. Does great on deer and will take down a buffalo. A full power load but the recoil isnt bad compared to many factory loads out there.

I know they're not full power but they sure are a lot easier to shoot. With either a 250gr XTP or 280gr WFNGC Beartooth, 24.0gr of 2400 gives right at 1400 fps from a 7.5" SRH and are PLENTY for any deer.

I am going to handgun hunt for the first time this year in Indiana with a FA 83 in 454 and when I first shot it using Magtech 260 SP about broke my wrist I still need to replace the grips with a set of Pachmayr but have just about settled with a 270 grain bullet at 1200 FPS

I think you better really check your data sources....most of the data given hear seems like Freedom Arms data to me. It is not convertable to the Ruger.

You cannot shoot the same data with a ruger...I tried it with 2 different SRH's and there was just no way to get it to work well.

An FA will get the 260JFP to 2000fps with ease...the SRH is more at home at 1500-1600fps.

I would re-think that. The Pacs are grippier and would transmit more to your wrist. A good set of padded shooting gloves helps a great deal. I like 36gr of 110 over the old FA 260. Lately been using 32 of 110 under the Hornady 300gr XPT mag, plus a bunch of HC stuff....

Be carefull with light loads in the 454,powder type is important. Its easy to load the 45colt with 270 bullet at 1,200fps

If you got reduced in the 454 2400 is a great powder over ones like 296. If you want it to zip 296 or 110 type powders are a better choice. I also find the small rifle mag primers help with position sensitivity in reduced loads.
