Approximately 12 months ago I came home after a meeting of my Deerstalkers Club. My wife casually asked how the meeting went, to which I replied that it had been very interesting as two of our members had given a presentation on their recent African hunt (rifle shooters).

Instead of the expected “that’s nice dear” my wife said “You should do it. You’ve been thinking about it for years, you should go.” She also said a few words to the effect of “whilst you still can” and “You’re not getting any younger”, but I was only hearing the part about “you should do it”. (Sometimes in life we are much more blessed than we ever deserve to be.)

Over the next few months I researched various outfitters and eventually decided to book with Andrew Renton. I arranged a fairly modest package of only four animals. Despite my wife’s OK, I didn’t feel comfortable with spending too much money on myself rather than family. As it turned out, the modest target resulted in a better hunting experience. It created a hunt based on stalking and not just raking up a trophy count.

In order to share the experience with everyone I’ve put an account of the trip in the member articles section.I hope you enjoy the account. http://www.handgunhunt.com/promo/membership/features/readNewArticle.php?oid=78&title=Kudu%20Dreaming

Finally I’d like to thank Gary, Darrell H, Whitworth, Wvhitman and all the other members of this site for providing the inspiration to make the hunt a reality.

Congratulations on a successful hunt, and thanks for sharing. Someday, I too hope to hunt kudu in Africa.

You went to the best place and person in SA. I've gone twice with Andrew and have taken 14 animals- #2 kudu, several top 10s, and everything else no worse than 38. Quality guy, quality hunt. Like Arnie says, "I'll be back".
Congradulations!!!

Wow. While you may not be able to handgun hunt in your location, you obviously know how to shoot that 454. I know very little about African horns, but that kudu looks huge.

Thanks for sharing your hunt.
