I just realized that I need a hunting holster for my new TC Encore. It has a 15" barrel and is scoped. I have a Bianchi bandolier rig for my scoped SBHH but the Bianchi doesnt come for a 15" gun.

What are you Encore guys using? I prefer bandolier style but am open to suggestions.

Thanks,

Brian

Pistol Packing is a good place to get a holster from when I ordered my holster bandoleer combo they called me up and we discussed what I wanted and how it was going to fit. From their charts I wanted a Large size with a extension to use if I needed but after talking with them they said to go with a XL as it has built in adjustments plus they sent me the extension for free. I had ordered a B holster for my SBHH with a FF3 they called me and said that they could make it but were not sure how it was going to work so they upgraded me to a A for free and told me if it was not what I wanted they would replace it to exactly what it was I was looking for no charge. Give em a try

Pistol Packing is where I got mine. If you get one, make sure that they place the hammer keep (or whatever you call the little strap for the hammer) on the "inside" of the holster on the side closest to your body. Mine had it on the outside and as the leather relaxed, the gun flopped farther away and pulled the leather of the holster open. I put the strap on the inside of the holster myself while on the hunt in South Africa. Other than that, the holster was comfortable even while carrying a scoped Ruger Super Redhawk on my belt.

Brian. Have you considered carrying your T/C on a sling? I find this to be superior to a holster for my style of hunting. The sling can also be an aid in steadying the gun when shooting. Most of the hunters I know carry their big single shots this way.

Billa-

No, the thought hadnt occurred to me. That is an interesting idea! Do folks attach the front of the sling to the fore end or to the barrel?

to the barrel

I've seen that done, but I sure woudn't. I know guys who go so far as to pillar their forends for a quarter inch for crying out loud.

Look on the bragging board under my name there are 3 Contenders with slings. The sling studs are Uncle mikes for shotguns barrels . They come in different sizes so measure your barrel and get the appropriate size. The slings have a loop in one end just long enough to slip over the head and one shoulder, just unhook the front swivel. That way if you are sneaking and peaking you can hang the gun down to your side by the rear swivel to free your hands .When you raise the gun there is just enough room to almost get your arms straight and it helps steady the gun. When I carry them in in the morning or out at night I have a extra large size Uncle Mikes holster sewn to the side of my back pack and they ride there . The open sighted .45 rides in a crossdraw in front of the left hip This works well for me.

My Contender sling kit came from SSK Industries many years ago. It is a pair of bolts that replace the grip and forend screws on the Pachmayer grip and forend. They have QD sling mounts for heads.
Midway lists a similar set for the Encore pistol - made by T/C. I have carried Contenders this way for 35 years and never had a problem. Pachmayer offers a grip & forearm set with studs already mounted.

I carried my Encore on a sling during my second RSA trip. I didn't have anything for it on the first trip. The sling made things much easier as one's hands are free to do whatever, keep one's balance on the trail, climbing rocks and trails, hanging on in the vehicle over rough roads, etc.
