Our forum hunt was on October 1st and 2nd at the Tioga Boar Ranch in Pennsylvania. Participating in this hunt was James from Jersey, myself and three friends of mine from NY that wanted the experience of hunting with a handgun. This area is NY Trackers stomping grounds. Thursday after work, Mike was there to greet James and myself as we got back to the lodge.

DAY #1 Now to the hunting.

Thursday morning found us in ladder stands. James was up on the high ground of the property and I was down on the bottom. After a couple hours of no action, I saw hogs running behind me. A little while later, James came and got me and said "Let's drop our stuff off on the road and go get those pigs." So we went up to do that.

All of a sudden, James said to me, "Jimmy, get your gun out. There's a pig down there." We stalked closer, got to 60 yards. My gun this day was my Super Red Hawk in 480 Ruger topped with an Ultradot Matchdot.

I put the dot on the pig's neck and squeezed. He dropped instantly.

The rest of Thursday was spent trying to get the pigs near James so he could get a shot. This was a lot of fun. They would stay in a group and bunch up. This was not easy. They would go from one end of the property to the other. This went on for hours. By the end of the day we had walked several miles and were exhausted.

Thursday night plans and strategy were made for Friday's hunt.

DAY #2
James was down in the bottom. I was up in a ladder stand on a side hill. It was a chilly morning with acorns falling all around me. It was a great day to be in the woods. My gun this day was a Ruger Blackhawk Hunter in .44 mag. All of a sudden, I heard a shot below me, followed by two more shots. A bit later I saw a group of pigs off to my side. They were too far for a shot. They made their way up to the top and out of sight. Shortly later, I saw a couple of orange vests. It was the staff of Tioga Boar Ranch. They gestured to me that they were going to do a little push up on top. A bit later, a lone boar came trotting down the logging road. I put the dot on his head and squeezed. He dropped instantly. James and I took pictures and waited for the Jeep.

When we got back to the lodge, I got a look at the pig that James shot and it was a beauty. While our pigs were being processed, we loaded up and got ready to get on the road home.

I would like to thank the staff at Tioga Boar Ranch for treating us like family. The accommodations and food were great! These are very nice folks.

This was a challenging hunt. I got a crash course in pig hunting and I got to share this hunt with the most accomplished handgun hunter I know. We had a blast and are making plans to do this again.

Sounds like a blast. Wish I could have made it. One of these days.....

Rod, too.

Photo # 1 is the 1st pig I shot with the 480 Ruger, photo #3 is the boar I shot with my Blackhawk Hunter, the last photo is a picture of the pistols I took on this hunt, the gun on the bottom is blackhawk chambered in 45 Colt.

Congrats guys. If you go again, I'd like to participate. I just need enough advanced warning to request time off. I am only about 3 hours from Tioga. Was there once and had a great time shooting a couple of pigs.

Racksmasher1, I am soo glad you were able to hunt with the Jersey Kingpin aka Jamesfromjersey. I really enjoyed talking with you. It is always nice to talk with other handgun hunters. I am also glad you enjoyed hunting at Tioga. I wish more handgun hunters would give preserves a try. They are the perfect places to meet & hunt with other handgun hunters in a target rich environment. I really enjoy trying out new guns & bullets on game that is tougher than WT deer. Congrats again man!
