I finally found a box of Hornady 240gr. XTP-Mag bullets in 45cal. I loaded several loads 1/2 gr under max of LongShot.

I also loaded Gold Bond 185gr. HPs at max load.

The gold dot expanded GREAT out to 1.064





The Hornady did not do so well at 1300fps.. I am sure my 45 WinMag will do better with the MAG bullet.

What did you test them in? Back when testing my Rowland, I could get the 230 and 250 (standard) xtp's to mushroom pretty well (typical) in damp/wet newsprint. The 230's bordered on inside out. The chemically bonded bullets were not readily available back then.

I could not come up with a logical use for the expanding bullets. Maybe for mountain lion defense, but that is a little more remote than bears and poachers, for me.

The 250 grain regular XTPs might work a bit better with your setup. They'll expand better than the XTP-Mags at that velocity.

I shot them into 4 1gallon oil jugs backed up by 3 5gallon hyd.oil pails.
