I am having so much fun with the Brute Squad (500JRH), that I've been thinking about casting my own bullets for it. However, I am VERY pleased with the 440g WFNGC from Cast Performance, and would like to know if it is possible to cast this same shape / weight of bullet myself? Is it difficult to start casting your own, and is it very precise? I am one of those that wants things to be VERY repeatable, and just don't know if I can do that when I try to cast my own.

Oh, and I am thinking of using the lead shot that I use for reloading my shotgun shells. Is this lead to soft to make bullets for full house 500JRH loads?

Casting is fairly easy once you get going, if you do it the same every time it is the same every time. If you stick with the same mix it will be the same every time. Problem is their will be an upfront start up cost for equipment and lead is getting harder to find. It is a giant rabbit hole, their is always something you can do different and improve. Once you add up the cost of the pot, molds, ingot molds, lube, and stuff you could buy a few thousand cast bullets for that price, so it depends on how much you shoot if it will be economical. I was shooting about 200rds of 44 mag a week when I started casting so it didn't take to long to break even, but I have a few sources for free lead. If your stuck paying $2 a pound for lead it doesn't make sense. I would go to like titanreloading.com and start pricing equipment, and see if you can find a supply of lead before you tin to it.

Rt-l have been casting for quite a few years and its great fun.Best source on the net for info is the Cast Boolits Forum..Theres nothing like shooting game with boolits you made yourself..
l get my lead from wheel weights and gun ranges.. The wheel weights naturally come from tire shops and garages..The other source explains itself..
l have bullet moulds by RCBS,Lyman,LEE,Hensley&Gibbs..My pots are Lyman and Lee..Sizer/lubers by RCBS,Lyman and Lee.

Most of Cast Performance bullets can be duplicated by mould designs from a company called N O E..There are also lots of videos on U Tube showing casting techniques.. l will say from the beginning that it takes time,patience,practice to make good boolits.. Any thing worth doing is worth doing well.

I'm thinking I'd be better off staying with the very well made, very precise, very affordable bullets from Cast Performance...

This all sounds like more than I want to get in to. I'd rather spend the time required for all this out shooting the guns rather than trying to figure out how to make a bullet.

Rt..Cast Performance makes some GREAT bullets..l shot a few for the first time awile back at our monthly IHMSA shoot.. Those 320s from my 629 took it to another level. Never seen those 50 meter chickens jump so high off the rail.. 200 meter ram too.

But cheap they aint..$40 a hundred is pricey..

Where did ya get $40 a hundred?? Is that for the 44 mags? Mine are $53 a hundred for the 440g WFNGC bullets that I shoot out of the 500JRH! But to me, that's cheap when I consider the accuracy and repeatability I get with them. The weight from bullet to bullet doesn't vary by much at all. That's another reason I'm not too eager to switch over to making my own. If it aint broke, don't fix it!

Been thinking of trying some of their 360gr/gc in my SW 460 PC Hunter.. l just cant justify anything that heavy on Whitetail or hogs..unless maybe l could get 3 side by side for a true TRIPLE

I got bit by the casting bug last year after I couldn't find bullets to reload. Started with a pair of Lee molds I got from Midway, and got hooked. Got a nice NOE mold for my birthday this year, and that became the bullet I'll be using on the stand this year

I find bullet casting to be a relaxing way to pass the time, sure beats TV. I cast for my 30'06, 32 H&R, 357,375 Ruger, 44, 45, 45 Colt, 454, and 45/70. I will say quality casting lead is getting harder to find, I have about 800-1000 lbs, Roto Metals is about the best place to get "known" quality metal, their mixtures are very good.
