This guy got to walk - Initially I thought, he's not fully mature. I would like to see him in 2 years. The biologist has weighed in and says this buck is 5 1/2 and should be shot as a management deer. What do you think?

Hog Kill yesterday evening. 100 lb boar at 101 yards with my FA 454.

Great job Gary. Are you filming your own hunts?

That's nice, Gary! That filming yourself can be tuff. That camera films awesome!

One of the hardest parts is getting all the stuff to the stand. We really don't have trees big enough to get into so that means filming from the ground and avoid being seen

I'm using a Canon XA-20. The big thing is a 20x optical zoom. Anything less and it just doesn't get you close enough. I'll post some pics soon of the setup I'm using. The camera itself is about 2K.

Nice work Gary! Good shooting and great footage!

I was surprised to see the hog and blackbuck sharing space as well as they did - I'm used to the whitetails clearing out when the swine appear...

The whitetails did clear out. They are great watchdogs for pigs. When the deer are at a feeder and suddenly blow out - it's pigs.

Ok - I think most are saying shoot him. What about this buck in the back?

He has the signs too of an older deer. Sway backed, neck is wider than his face so he's rutted up a bit.

Gary,

I was going to guess at least 4.5 on the first deer, based on the chest/waist ratio, back line, etc and the karate-chop brisket.

On deer #2, do you have any photos showing the chest and full stomach?

I can't tell much on second one. Girth of belly and back is a good indicator though if you've got a good look of him. His back is definitely down and neck etc but with the short tines and look of the rack, I'd pop him.

Here is the 2nd deer a year later. Is he a shooter now? Keep in mind mature 8 pts are considered management deer on highly managed properties.

Here is the same deer after another year. 11 pts - split G2. He escaped the hammer that year and was killed the next year having had the same basic rack as shown here.

That's cool Gary. Funny how his posture changes the look of his back line etc. He looks younger in second pic than in the first one body wise. Hard to judge from pics sometimes if you can't be there watching them isn't it
;\)
