Hello , I am having trouble keeping my scope from creeping in the stock rings that are on my SRH. I am not shooting hot loads I did shoot approx 120 full power loads through it yesterday and the scope crept 1/2". Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here are a few tips that I hope assist you in scope mounting. -Always clean the inside of the rings and the scope body with alcohol. Any oil residue, even body oils are a potential problem. -Tighten all rings evenly and firmly. Shoot 1 shot and retighten. I prefer rings with Allen head screws vs. slotted. -Use a 3rd ring if the mount base allows it. I like 2 rings in front of the turret as the muzzle rise stresses the forward ring area the most. -Mount with the adjustment turret pressed forward against the front ring so it has no where to creep to. -If the inner ring surface is shiny you can lightly rough it with sandpaper. Clean it after. I hope this helps.

On every one of my rifles that have had this problem I have found cleaning fluids in the rings. However light it may, it will cause problems. I clean the rings and scope tube with alcohol before mounting the scope or when the problem rises I take the scope off and reclean.
99% of the time there will be oil on the cloth after wiping it all down.
Lead, push or get the heck out of the way!

Here is an additional item. Clean screws and screw holes with alcohol too. A dry screw will stay tighter. An oily one can loosen easier thru time. This is really important when mounting scope bases. I use a tiny amount of thread locker on the sides of base screws. Again, Allen head base screws are superior to slotted screws.

I've only had one gun that came with Ruger rings and they needed lapping in the worst way. They only contacted the scope tube on about 50% of it's surface. In lieu of lapping you can try a small piece of return address label stock on each ring half to get a better grip.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Lap the rings and add the address labels as stated above
If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.
