Been shooting my 44sbhh last 2 weekends. First time shooting 100 yds didnt pan out as i wanted. Practice practice practice. Thst said my sight picture was not at all to my liking. I am shooting a 2x leupold scope just seems a little dark and could use a 4x magnification. So taking into account clearance and durability magnification what do you guys think would be a nice quality scope for around 3- 400 bucks .. wife has been asking what i want for Christmas.

The Nikon Force XR variable is what I use on my 460. It's just under $300.

You may also want to look over the Bushnell Elite 2-6 x 32 pistol scope. I've had one for about 5 years now on my .44 SBHH It has 20" eye relief at all power. On many pistol scopes, eye relief shortens as the magnification is increased. But at 6x, this scope will still give you a full picture at arms' length. As always, if possible, get a look through any scope before you buy it.

+1 Bushnell Elite 2x6. Or the Ultra-Dot though mine has to go back. I put the Ultra 6 on my S&W 629,and I'm really liking it.

I just acquired my first Ultra-Dot this year, now currently mounted on a Redhawk in .41 - great, durable optic that was helpful in ringing 100m silhouette steel earlier this summer.

For optics with magnification, the Bushnell Elite 2x6 is a great revolver-friendly option in the price range that you specified. I have one on a 44, a 22, and several single shots. A Leupold FX-II in 4x would be a good option (new), or a 2.5-8 (used) via the auction sites.

I use Leupold 4x and 2.5-8 as well as the bushnell elite and don't rule out the Weaver 2.5-8. Price is great and the clarity is outstanding. The 4x is probably one of my favorites all around and is easily used to extended ranges. It would also work perfectly with the factory rings on your ruger hunter. The others will require new rings for height possibly. I know the 4x is just about perfect on the Hunter.

While we're on this subject. Will the factory rings that come with a Ruger Super Redhawk work for a Bushnell Elite 2-6X32?
