Took the Bisley out for a photo op to compare the difference in flash between the ACP and Colt loads. For starters, we have the factory loaded .45 ACP and 185gr Federal Classic ammunition. Kind of anti-climactic, huh? Next, the .45 Colt loads comprised of 250gr XTP bullets and 26.5gr H110. Hehehehehehehehehehehehehehe............... Consequently, these are self portraits. I used a camera on a tripod with timer, a slow sync flash and 10 second exposure. I set the timer and pushed the shutter release button. I then had a 10 second count down to move to the predetermined location for the shot. The shutter released and the flash popped! I fired the gun about 1 second after the flash popped and held my position as the camera's shutter stayed open for the remainder of the exposure. The flash captured my initial position (and the hammer back) and the flames imprinted themselves when I fired the gun after the flash. Kinda cool, huh? Sucker is STOUT!!!!!

Nice! Now capture it with light painting. You'll need help with that.

Doc Yes, with the long shutter and slow sync flash going off before I fired, it captured the hammer in the rear position. Then, since I fired about 1 second after the flash, with the shutter still open, the muzzle blast was then imprinted on the image. You do not see the gun in recoil as there was no illumination to catch the movement..........even though the shutter was still open. No light........no image. Since I had two temporary sources of light during the 10 second exposure.......there is the impression of two images fused together on one exposure. Me standing there aiming the gun and the blast of the round firing. Nothing before or after those two instances of "light" is captured.

Wow. - superior photography!
And to think I was all geeked up about an adapter to video via iPhone through my spotting scope. My camera gear is lacking...

Very cool. I would have thought there would be more flame area at the b/c gap. This area seems to be larger on pictures I have seen when the shooter is in more light, or even daylight.

I initially thought it was from the cylinder gap as well, shooting it in the daytime. That's why I went back at night to take the picture. Figured I'd get the huge fireball exiting the gap. I was surprised when it was from the muzzle and very little at the gap.
Guess it's tighter than I expected.

And thats why you don't shoot thru the screens in your blinds! Yep, pretty much put a period on that discussion.
Rod, too.
