Let first say that I have been gone for a while.

What are your thoughts on the 10mm auto, Glock 20 for hunting. Deer and hogs. What powders, bullets, barrels are preferred.

So let's hear your recipes and experiences.

I have a Glock 20SF I have been carrying for two seasons, but haven't had the opportunity to bloody it yet.

It is loaded with Nosler 180 JHP's for deer traveling at 1320 fps. and 190 grain FNGC's traveling at 1335 fps. for hogs.

I carried the gun on a boar hunt in Tennessee last month, but didn't have a shot opportunity on anything weighing over 200 lbs.

I think it's a pretty good platform, especially when multiple targets of opportunity are in play. I used one this summer in Florida on hogs, loaded with Federal 180 grain Trophy Bomded JSPs.

I love Glocks; reliable and ugly/simple enough to use in all conditions. The 10mm round I am unfamiliar with but it seems to have a good reputation for deer and hogs.

My thoughts? One look at the market for guns, ammo and aftermarket parts and it is obvious. Lots of folks like auto's. Lots of folks like Glocks. I think a lot of these folks may have either only handgun hunted with revolvers or are new to the concept.

revolvers are not dead, but I think the myth that you need a 44 mag or better to hunt effectively is most certainly being laid to rest ;^)

Glock 20SF
6" KKM barrel
JPoint reflex sight

The Nosler JHP load is charged with Bluedot, and I used Longshot with the 190 grain FNGC.

My 10mm is a revolver. I have owned my 610 S&W for around 20 years. It like the Glock has no issues with heavy loads.
I would probably go with a Full House 180 or 200 grain jacketed bullet like the XTP. I have been using Blue Dot with the 10mm for years.
With a 180 or 200 I think that you can get a pass through on a broadside behind the shoulder shot with no issues at all. The 357 Magnum has been getting the job done. A Full House 10mm has more gusto than a 357.
I carried the 610 as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for 15 years. The main reason was finishing off deer hit by vehicles. You can tell a difference between a Full House 10mm and a 40 S&W.

Given full house loads with a 6" barrel, what do you say is the effective range and outermost range of a 10mm for effectively taking deer and hogs?

I have sw 1006. I use 200gr hardcast doubletap lead. Unfortunately no opportunity as arisen to shoot a deer yet. I did get a opposum though. When i was first researching the 10mm it seemed most beleived effective range to be 30-50yds on deer/hog. I woukd def feel comfortable at 40 with mine
