Hoping to successfully run these at 1000-1200 FPS from the 454 and 45 Colt. From an LBT .453 325 mold I found on eBay, they drop at 340 grains.

Very nice bullet. What do you intend to use it for?

They cast super easy, takes a little more care when sizing, but if these shoot as good as the gas check version, I will be ecstatic, as I won't be buying the GC version any longer. I have a 6" Freedom Arms 454, and a 5 1/2" Ruger Bisley that I plan on using this bullet in. I like relatively heavy bullets at moderate speeds these days, the 300+ grain bullets at near 1500 fps just aren't appealing any longer. I figure penetration shouldn't be a problem on deer, elk, and hogs, and the wide nose should create a good wound channel.

I think we can do better than a VW.

That'd probably make it through a Hummer with just enough retained energy to demolish the Prius on the other side.

Can't eat a VW, but it should penetrate nice and deep into an elk's rib cage and through the other side for plenty of blood.

Nice you have the two platforms to test. Something I had not fully understood until more recently, but have been experiencing for years are the extra heavies at moderate speed perhaps bing a bad match for the barrel twist.

Folks have written about the FA slow twist (relative to the Ruger) not being great at the low end. I have had lots of targets bear that out for me, with 335's and 360's at 900-1100 fps from my FA producing nice round, large groups. Probably tried 4 or 5 different powders, with laddered charges, over the last 10 years or so. Nothing would work, until I got the weight down closer to 300. 250's, I can stack in a single hole, with a scope.

Good luck with the testing. And if the bullet does not seem to be performing well at reduced velocity, perhaps work up a few at full throttle to check this possible issue.

One thing I have yet to experience is a problem with twist, I have shot 335s as low at 900 fps, and other than a shift in the POI, the groups didn't really open up much. When I first got my FA, I shot a lot of 325gr LFNGC bullets at 11-1200 fps, and turned in some very impressive 30 and 50 yard groups, I am hoping to get the same results from the new bullet, only issue is I am running out of HS6 which has proven to be about the best powder I've used for midrange 454 loadings. We shall see, I will of course try these at more appropriate 454 velocities as well. I would like to get an LBT 315gr LFN to try as well. The 45 Colt is a Ruger, it should have no issues shooting the 1000-1100 fps range loads, it has a 1:16 twist, I just don't care for the Bisley grip as much, hurts the hand more when loads get up there. I often wonder if I found thicker grip panels, which would spread the force out more, if the Bisley would agree with me more, the FA grip shape isn't that different. I would really like to settle on about 3 or 4 different loads, and stop all the experimenting!

First shots, high flier was the fouler. Did just as well at 60 yards.
