With all the recent interest in the new Single-Sevens has anyone used the .327Mag. to hunt with? Coyotes, Light loads for small game? They cant all be sitting around or just being shot at the range.
Some one please speak up!

I have not. I've been thinking about something along those lines though. I'm also considering the 22M.

Oddly enough, the.327 is a legal Indiana deer hunting cartridge. I would not try it.

smirkir,

I have a Freedom Arms 97, Ruger Gp-100, and a Ruger BlackHawk in 327 Fed. It is a very versatile choice when considering the 32 ACP, 32 S&W, 32 S&W Long, 32 H&R mag, and the 327 Fed mag can all be used in the same gun (occasionally the 32 ACP doesn't extract from the GP cylinder). Factory ammo selection is limited; however, bullet selection is very good, including molds for casting your own. Think of it as a modern 32-20 WCF. That being said, the overall cartridge length in the Single-Seven is a limiting factor not found in the GP, Blackhawk, or FA'97(occasionally). The round is excellent for small game, and fur bearers (coyotes)depending upon the bullet and velocity level chosen.
The 327 Fed is very similar to the 30 M1 carbine and the 7.62x25 Tokarev (Ruger BlackHawk); however, the Single-Seven is a more compact platform.
Try it, you'll like it!

doc, thanks for your input. I have a 8 shot Blackhawk and a 6 shot S & W J frame #632 with adjustable sights and a ported barrel. Also have a Unfired old model Blackhawk in .30carbine that I am trying to find some use for. I have been thinking about a single seven to go with my .32magnum single six's.

smirk,

I have 3 Ruger BlackHawks in 30 M1 carbine, 1 an old 3 screw has an extra cylinder I rechambered to 32-20 WCF, the other a new model has an extra cylinder rechambered to 7.62x25 Tokarev, the 3rd a new model 30 M1 with a 4x Burris. Forgot, I have an 632 like yours also. They are all great fun.

I have a 3 inch sp101 in .327 federal and I absolutely love it. I haven't done any intentional hunting with the round, but last year I did shoot a large spike through the liver with my 30-30 contender. I saw the deer go down quickly in some heavy brush, so I just set the contender down and trotted over to what I assumed was a dead deer. He popped up and out came the .327. At 15 yards the 100 grain America Eagle went through both lungs and one rib for a complete pass through. The next two shots on that adrenaline laden spike went through the right hindquarter as he tried to make a second escape, one low near the knee and the other about halfway up the ham. Both complete pass through, both shattering the femur on their way out. On the whole this story is about botching my initial shot, and letting impatience get the best of me, but as to the little .327 I was seriously impressed. Under ideal situations I believe it to be whitetail capable, but far from my first choice of hunting round.
