I would like to thank Gary again for letting me shoot a couple of his guns last summer. A couple in 454 and a couple 475's. I decided the 454 would be the most versatile for me so now it is on it's way. Does anyone have a suggestion on which front sight works best for hunting? I have used ramp front sights. Some with orange and some without. Never tried fiber optics. The gold bead looks interesting.

I have used their express with a gold bead, and the premier with both partridge and fiber optic. I like the premier rear with the fiber optic the best for hunting. The Fiber optic is very small allowing for precise aiming.

I liked the gold bead/express combo the least.

I don't like the gold bead either. The ramp works great at the range (if you're in the shade) but can be very poor in some light conditions. The best hunting sight that FA makes is the green fiber optic. I really like the sight picture I get with a 6" barrel and standard rear sight. You may need more than one size depending on the range of loads you want to shoot. You can easily swap them with an allen wrench.

Green fiber and square notch rear for me.

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

Yes - this is the way to go for hunting.

I hope this is the right thread to ask this question.
Which Holster? I am leaning toward the chest holster with the shoulder straps offered by Freedom Arms. Barrel length is 7.5. I find that hip holsters are great until you sit down in the dirt with even a six inch barrel which is the shortest I use for hunting.

It's not really a chest rig but rides lower just above or at the belt. You can easily get in & out of a truck with it on too. It's also versatile enough to use as a vertical shoulder holster.

Probably don't need to say this but just make sure you only load 4 rounds - leave the hammer down on the empty chamber...

Thanks for all the input! I figure I am on the right track with this new gun. Great to have the benefit of others experience to cut through the B.S. and have confidence in what a man is spending money on.

This project is my early Christmas present. Next Christmas that is . . . . but the wait will be worth it.

Best,

Don
