Deer season used to be a time of experimentation. Every year I had new toys to get blood on. Over the last few years that has changed. Kids are getting bigger, hobbies are changing, job changed, and less time to hunt....but I'm sticking to the hunting handguns.

This AM I laid out a nice large PA doe with a plain jane, tried and true combo. The 16" Competitor .308 w/ H4895 and a 125gr NBT did the job again. It wears Burris rings and a Burris 3-12x. Range was close, 115yds. This combo just works and the 125gr NBT just does the job. I have no idea of the velocity, no drop charts, etc. I can just grab this rig annually, two shots to check zero and head to the woods. The Competitor balances perfect and packs well.

I can hunt two more days and have two tags to fill.

I often wish I'd never sold you that "boring" gun.

She's killed some dandy bucks for me and a pile of does too. It's amazing how well it balances w/ the 16" barrel. I've only ever shot the 125's from it.....first load went an inch at 100yds, I zeroed it and that's been it.

Do you get full penetration with the nosler 125 s ?

The .308 Winchester ain't flashy. But, it's effective beyond the numbers. I've done some stupidly amazing things with that cartridge. With short barrels and long. That sucker just works. One of my favorite chamberings.

Lung hits leave a 50-80yd blood trail with a dead deer at the end. Shoulder hits leave a nasty exit and short blood trail.

One kid thru college, another almost, n another with a little high school left. Dad n mom have passed on, i inherited the farm, and am having a house built. I have hunted about 2 days in the last three years. 😝.....and really dont have much interest. It could be worse there mr excitement. 😉

Naa....that girl is going to stay in the stable. Just not been going to my LR spots in the last couple years. They got invaded by others ripping around on deer drives with quads.

I shot another doe this AM during a quick unplanned hunt below the house. Used the .308 again. So, just a buck tag remaining.

Full frontal shot, 85yds. For the first time, the 125NBT did not exit.

Didn't bother to look. Was pressed for time this AM.....really didn't expect to shoot anything and needed to get into the office. The pile is in my lower field so I may look later.

If you were a lousy shot and missed\maimed game you would be pissed.

Boring is better than pissed.
