I have it.

I came across a 14" used custom Match Grade Machine barrel in .460 S&W with:

*Bull Forend
*Grip
*6-Hole Stainless Base
*Fluting
*Integral brake

I couldn't pass that up. Not after playing with a friend's .460 S&W for sure!

It just so happen that I had a Weaver 2-8x Pistol Scope sitting in my cave still in the box. How perfect is that!

The grips are very comfortable and the forend has pillars for the screws. Unfortunately (and unknown until I received it) the forend has a hairline crack running from the front screw to the back and all the way through. I am going to attempt to glue it. If that doesn't work, maybe a cross bolt. Either way, it mounts fine and holds well enough as is and at the price I got it..............much less than a new barrel and scope base...........the stock set was basically free.

The brake is nicely done, even though it's a 360 degree brake. Sucker should kick up some dust if I shoot it prone! That's for sure.

I have all the needed accessories to load for it and plan to use 250gr Hornady XTP (non-Mag) bullets in it as well as 350gr WFN-GC Matt's Bullets. The 250's were for my .45 Colt Bisley, but it shoots the 300gr WFN-GC so well and shoots 230gr ACP ammo to the same POI. So, I'm gonna stick with those two bullets for the Colt.

It will be interesting to see how the non-Mag XTPs do in the .460 S&W. They will either work perfectly...........or blow a serious hole in a deer or pig. We will see. I suspect they will do fine, if not a little excessive in the terminal performance arena. The 350gr WFN-GC bullets..................well...............I don't hunt anything that could possibly stop one of those, I don't suspect. But, it'll be fun to load in to the hilt and try. Ha!!

Will be using Starline Brass and H110 for powder.

The scope fit's perfectly with the MGM base and Warne rings. Nice and clear with perfect eye relief. I think it should hold up well.

The Beast weighs 6 pounds 4 ounces!!! I don't think recoil will be that bad with the brake and weight. Hopefully, not famous last words.

This is gonna be F-U-N......fun.

If yours shoots like mine, you're gonna love it!! My barrel was done by MGM as well. It will take out milk jugs at 200 yards with no problem. Mine loves the 300gr XTP's, but they aren't being made right now. Hopefully they will start again soon. That bullet with a bit of H110 shot a .532" group at 100 yards! Made me look FAR better than I really am!

Very nice. Your right, better put a dust mask in your range bag.

As to the stock split, my suggestion would be Brownell's accra glass/gel, and their black dye. Get some into the crack, and a smooth layer on the inside of the forearm, and don't worry about it oosing to the out a little. Once set, sand the stock with finer grits until the seam matches the rest. With the color of your laminate stock, I bet you might not even notice it.

I had a 375JDJ that was heck on sling swivels and stocks, with a Harris attached.

Beautiful setup!

Big recoil is right. My .460 made me want to chest bump, high five, touchdown dance at the first couple of trigger pulls.

That's what I do when I touch off the 500JRH every time we take it out! The first few shots are ALWAYS a riot! It never gets old.

This is what happens to a cracked forend after 5 rounds of .460 S&W.

I was afraid that was going to happen.
I have broke some contender forends in the past with some heavy kickers.

I suspected it as well. Then, at the range, the crack grew with every shot.

The flip side, I didn't know how I was going to get the glue in the thin crack that pretty much encompassed half the forend. Once it split in two.........it was easier to glue.

;-)

Zee, do you have that hammer offset to the right?

Looks like a good fix! I used to do wood work, and the titebond stuff is stronger than the wood itself!

I bet it will work for you. Looks nice!

Yes. Though, I'm realizing now that I want to offset it to the left. I place my shooting hand on the gun and want to cock the hammer with my left, as with single actions.

Gotta switch it.

Woohoo!!!

It's holding like a champ!!!

Went to the range late this morning to test the forend repair and the remaining two loads I had made up.

Set the target at 50 yards and crossed my fingers.

First three rounds (48.5 gr) went off without a hitch. Checking the forend between shots, there was no sign of a crack and all three grouped a little over 1/2" to boot. Recoil? yeah........it was more than the loads yesterday. With renewed vigor.......I stepped up to the plate with the 49.0gr loads.........

I'm a happy camper. No further issues with the crack and it's shooting better than I expected. The primers aren't overly flattened and extraction is easy as pie. I could probably go higher with the powder, but I'm not going to push these non-mag bullets any faster. I think I will call it good enough for these bullets and move on to the 350gr cast bullets next.

Recoil.............it's there. More so than my friends revolver with the 200gr. bullets. There is assuredly more FELT recoil in this gun. I think that has to do with the fact he has a rubber grip and mine is wood. Individual shots make you aware you just fired. Each shot in and of itself is not painful, but I can tell that a long session would wear your hand out. I fired 6 rounds today with no issues. 15-20 would probably be max without a break.

Here is the recoil in slow motion.

While I think the brake is an inefficient design compared to a side ported baffle................I'd hate to know what it would be like without one.

So, crisis averted. All seems well in the stock world and accuracy is acceptable. Life is good.

Hmmmmmmmmmm...........I have one round left. What should I do with it? Oh........I know!!! I'm gonna try and kill a deer with it this evening.
