nice looking gun, xp. i think those rugers can handle slightly hotter loads than the other black powder pistols...i think the cylinders are longer. plus you get the old model action !! and if you like, there are some companys out there that sell drop-in 45 colt cylinders that you can use. i think they are only for normal pressure loads though . good luck working up loads !!

I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a handgun today.

SWEET!! I have looked at them a few times. I think I would get the SS model. I pass each time figuring that the black powder bug has not bit me yet and I really don't have the time for another field of interest right now.

Here's the load I use for my Old Army.
Buffalo Bullet 190 and Triple 7

They're incredibly accurate and strong.

In fact right in the manual Ruger states that you can't overload it.... Hard to believe they'd say that....

I had a first production run Old Army but collectors finally pried it from my hands...

Now I have one of the new stainless models.

I suggest you never shoot anything but Triple Seven in it and you can clean it in 5 minutes with WD-40 rather than an hour with soap and water.

As far as I can tell Triple Seven won't harm a firearm any more than modern smokeless powders and the folks at Hodgdon seem to agree.

*** EDIT *** I just realized that someone might think that I mean you can load an Old Army with modern smokeless powders... YOU CAN'T!!! I'm talking about corrosion and rust!

I have a Lee 220 grain mold on order and Triple 7 is all I use now. I shot it the other day with a .457 Speer round ball an T-7 was able to keep all shots on a paper plate @ 20 yards freehand groups were in the 2"~3" range.
