I went out this weekend with buddies to get some fresh pork for the freezer and just have fun. I took my son with me as well, this was his first trip out with me. I took three handguns with me with bullets I wanted to field test. Two, I've used and one was new. The first I ended up using was the usual 385 grain soft alloy HP slug for the 475 Linebaugh. My standard load of 14.5 grains of HS-6 pushing an even 1100 fps from the 6" Premier Freedom Arms sixgun. The big sixgun is topped with a Leupold Deltapoint I got from my buddy James here on the forum and was being carried in my newest Barranti creation. A perfectly executed crossdraw made with Cape Buffalo hide. Amazing craftsmanship!

It was late the second day about 30 minutes before dark and my son and I had two large sows come out of the treeline with a couple smaller boars. He decided that we HAD to shoot one of these. I was using my old set of Stoney Point bipod sticks instead of the BogPod this time. I set them up and started switching between the two sows trying to get a clear shot. I was waiting for the "window" that I had a clear shot without another pig behind or in front of one of the large sows.

When it finally happened, I applied the last bit of pressure to the trigger of the FA and sent the big HP slug on its way. The slug entered low and tight behind the front left shoulder and she made a mad 10 yard dash and it was over. Blood loss over the 10 yards was exceptional. Gabriel pulled off his ear muffs and said "I think you hit it Dad, it was bleeding bad". I told him that was typically a good sign of a hit

Gabriel was very excited and the icing on the cake was that we recovered the slug. It may look familiar, as its virtually identical to the others that have been recovered. Expansion to .931" and it retained 382.3 grains of the original sized and lubed weight of 386 grains. You can see the dent in the base in the picture that happened when it fell on the concrete during skinning. It busted up the offside pretty bad but stopped on the thick offside hide. Gabriel thought the bullet was really cool when he saw it and has requested the slug and casing for his collection

Overall, an excellent weekend and one more example of how consistent the performance of this slug continues to be. Its the most consistent big slug I've ever used. We are starting to get a good handle on this bullet and what to expect at different velocities. 1100fps is a magic spot for this alloy/bullet. It shoots a ragged hole group at 25 and very good groups at 100 yards. Internal damage is extensive and it has yet to fail to expand properly. This is the same slug I used on bison a while back and it continues to impress me.

Dick Thompson sells them sometimes. He offers them as powder coated or regular sized and lubed. I like the regular lube personally. I'll have to make sure the email I have is right. Will update soon.
