I was at the range today shooting some 45 colts with hornady 250 xtp and 24 grains of 4227, to my suprise people at the range were looking at me shoot,, im like what is going on? then one of the range officers approaches me and asks me if im shooting tracers? To my suprise my rounds were leaving a streak of glow behind all the way out to my 75 yard target that look like tracers.

Any idea why this is happening? OFF curse i was not shooting tracers

Light reflecting off the bullet.

I've seen it many times with many different cartridges. Both rifle and handgun. The rifle usually is with a spotting scope and a little ways out (no, not talking about trace).

But yes, if the light is right, you can see a bullet fly through the air for a period. I've never seen one from start to finish like a tracer. Just usually a portion of its path.

If you are shooting in the woods where light is filtered by the foliage of trees, you can often see the bullets in flight. Where the bullet crosses shadows and then into light it is especially apparent.
