I will have enough Christmas money for a new Encore pistol barrel from Match Grade Machine. It will most likely be 15" long and a 1" Full Bull Stainless Steel. But that's subject to the selected chambering. Threading for brake will also depend on the chambering.

I have no aspirations that this will have the accuracy of a bolt action Specialty Pistol. For that reason, I will be placing another 2-8x Weaver pistol scope on it and it will be a straight up hunting rig.

Problem now, I need to decide on chambering. Here is a list of my current hunting handgun/pistol chamberings.

.22 lr
.223 Rem
.260 Rem
6.5-284 Win
7mm-08 Rem
.30-30 AI
.308 Win
.338-06 A-Square
.35 Rem
.44 Mag
.445 Super Mag
.45 Colt
.454 Casull
.460 S&W

I am leaning towards, but not sold on getting a .30-06 Spr barrel. For the only reason that I have...........a plethora of 173gr Match ammo with the SMK bullet in it. I wouldn't have to load for it initially and I'd have plenty of brass to use afterwards.

But, I am openly seeking suggestions.

With the 308 & the 338/06 already in the arsenal, you've already covered anything the '06 could do. I say...Go Big! 375/284, 375/350, or go ahead and step up to a 416 Taylor. Big Recoil = Big Fun. You only live once! Do it man

You need a 50-something.

Rod, too.

I had considered a larger caliber. Just not sure which one to go with. I thought maybe a .500 S&W, but it's about the same as my .460 S&W. I don't gain much from it.

Zee,

How about the quarter bores? I have a 25 Bullberry (7-30 necked down), 25 Souper (308 necked down)and a 25-06 JDJ ( 25-06 Ackley). They are all dynamite with Barnes TSX/TTSX bullets.

Doc

You need a 6mm. I'd pick a 6br or 6 dasher

I don't see a .22 L R on your list . No set is complete without one. You have everything else pretty well covered. Squirrels and small varmits need loving too,and a .22 is just pure fun!

You have plenty of horsepower and range covered.
I vote 6x45, 6BR, or 22lr and see just how accurate an ol encore can be.

Ah, my bad!

I have a Ruger MKII with 4x scope and a Ruger Charger Pistol with 4x scope as well.

Need to edit the list.

The .243 Win has been in the running because I have plenty of brass.

I believe you have the best chambering already, the mighty 338-06. That is my go to gun.

25-06 or 257 AI would be a good one. A 243 is great.
I'm quite fond of the 375 JDJ in my encore.
I love all things that fire a .284 diameter slug, so why not a 7 mag or 280? The .280 is a wonderful round.

The 375-06 jdj is very impressive. So is the 50 Alaskan.

50 AK

375-06 JDJ
225s@2600 with more to spare. Recoil is surprisingly mild. Blast is big but for all around hunting, though to beat! Accuracy is amazing!

I like the big bores, quarterbores, and I'm a confirmed 6.5 junky...but this is about as much fun as one can have with the break actions

May as well give my 50 cents worth. My .376 Steyr requires no fire forming, easy to load with H322, one of my most accurate encores, and has close to power of my .375/.284 in a more compact package. Looks like a win-win-win-win proposition.

Here is a suggestion you may or may not like. Assuming you are on a typical. Middle class income but you already have an impressive Encore collection... Take the money - put it in a jar in your gun safe and save it for a hunting trip. Trust me. I did this for 2 years and funded a trip to Africa. The best money I ever spent.
