Does anybody have experience loading cast bullets in a 375 JDJ? Since my usual Hornadys are not available I would like to try some other bullets. I have some Lehigh bullets but want to try something else too.

I've used a lot of 270 gr. cast, gas checked, flat points over the years. They are devastating on groundhogs and deer. A long gone friend made me a bunch. They are accurate. I use the same load for them as I do 250-270 jacketed bullets. Never leaded.
I even shoot mine in my .375/.284 XP without any problems.

I have a bunch of 285 grainers ready but haven't loaded or shot them yet. I have a note to Accurate Powder to see if they have loads for it. They have a lot of data with their 5744 powder in cowboy loads and big bores.

My internet searching may have paid off. I found a site for Hawk bullets. They have .375 235 and 250 grain bullets. They have them in a spitzer and soft point bullets. I am waiting for a response from them to see what the minimum velocity is for them to mushroom.

Spoke too quick. Called Hawk today. They do not have the thinner jacket bullet in stock. Back to the drawing board.

I have a little experience . let say i'm not overly impressed.
best results have been with 280gr w gascheck , H4895

I do prefer hornady 220gr but have been impossible to get .

Dad,

I use water quenched cast bullet, Lyman #375449, approx 268 gr., that I anneal the nose portion. Works like a Nosler Partition. Nose approx. 8 Brinnell, shank approx. 21 Brinell, with gas check. Nose expands approx. 2 calibers, sometimes rubs off upon contact, shank carries on through. I use them in 375 WCF and 375 JDJ handguns. Work as well as, perhaps better than jacketed.
