Is there a big difference between a 7 1/2" and 5" barrel as far as accuracy is concerned. Keep in mind, my intent is to mount a dot sight on the handgun.

Barrel length has little to nothing to do with accuracy, per se. The advantage of a longer barrel is the extended sight radius which may help one shoot irons more accurately, but not a factor with an optic.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

All the above.

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

Would that be "Blazing Saddles"?

I will be the dissenting vote on length vs/accuracy. Short is MORE accurate!
When you flinch & wobble as much as I do you don't want the bullet in the barrel any longer than necessary!

Set that sucker free as soon as possible!

While the question was asked of handguns l would like to say l shoot benchrest. ln that venue the trend is to ever shorter lengths some approaching the legal minimum of 16''. The shorter the barrel is stiffer. Stiffer means less vibration which hurts accuracy
