I got ahold of a Rem XP100 in 221 Fireball. I HAVEN'T fired it yet so, I don't know what to expect as far as recoil. Trying to figure out what to do here. I see people put rifle scopes on them and some videos show the shooters eye is far away like it was a extended eye relief handgun scope. I put an old Tasco 3-9X rifle scope on it temporarily just to see how Id like this handgun. My eye is about 2" away from the scope to get a good picture. Something just doesn't feel right & I'm concerned that the scope might hit when I fire it. Does anyone have any recommendations? I appreciate ANY comments! Thank you - Matt

You don't have to be so close to the scope. I run rifle scopes on both my XP-100s. I use a modified "pistol scope" hold and create a "doughnut hole" in the center of the scope. I maintain center by using the heavy duplex reticle or mil dots to keep the shadow even round the scope. This eliminates the parallax shift.
Give it a shot.

What Zee said ^^^
Add that the 221 doesn't have all that much of a kick to it.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

The XP in 221FB was my first SS pistol back in about 1979(?). It was a rockchuck killing machine! With the short barrel (10"?), mid grip, & a reward mounted pistol scope it never felt muzzle heavy enough to be comfortable for me so we parted ways & I started playing with Contenders. Wish I had it now...

I had a Bushnell 4x14 mounted on mine when I owned it. The gun does not have any recoil and recoiled even less with the heavy rifle scope on top. Go for it!!

I have a pistol scope on mine, but a rifle scope should serve you well. Minimun recoil but it is apply named, .221 FIREBALL as it sure has one and is LOUD as HELL so wear muffs.A very mild mannered sweet shooting pistol. You can add 5 wadcutters in holes in the forend to help with the balance.
