Sweet! The groups looks pretty darn good and the performance looks to be very similar to a .357 Magnum...which is enough to kill a deer at short range.

That's not to shabby for a front stuffer. Should kill a deer nicely.

Great velocities and wonderfull grouping with that cap and ball revolver Is this going to be a tree stand piece, or will you also do a lot of stalking etc with it?

I was told this gun was only good to kill paper not deer LOL...I think I'll risk it and try it out on a deer. This will be my main stalking gun as well as the tree stand piece.

I know for a fact that the ruger old army will kill a deer. I personally have done it. But the thing to remember is that light ball will loose speed and energy fast. A lot faster then a 158 gr bullet from a 357 mag. shots need to be less then 10 yards to retain enough energy to kill a small deer cleanly.

You will still get a pass trough at longer distances but you will not have the shock value and the you are left with just the bleeding out to kill the deer and that small hole will not let the deer bleed out fast enough for a quick clean kill

Try settig your crony up at 30, 40 and 50 yards and see how fast that little ball slows down

The ball is starting out with less then 550 ft. lbs of energy. not the best for taking a deer!

They may not be fast or overpowered, but there is little that will bring as much fun to your day as some "smoke & fire".

If you intend to hunt with the Old Army I recommend this bullet/load combination.

190gr Buffalo Bullet and 777
