Hello, I'm looking at having my SRH converted over to a 41 Mag with a 7 1/2 inch barrel, I plan on shooting Win. Platinum Tips 240gr bullets for deer and pig. Any comments would be welcome. I will probable load Swift A-Frames 210grains also. Thank you, Jerry
PS. Gary and James I would love your input on this!

Uncle,
Why convert to a 41 Mag to shoot the standard wt. 44 Mag bullet of 240 grains? The 41 is a great caliber; however, ammo, component availability has always been an issue for the 41, especially for the non-reloader. Personally, I would use the conversion money to by 44 Mag ammo and components, reloading equipment, if you don't yet reload. If you want to convert the SRH, just because, I truly understand the addiction, suffering from the same affliction.

I've thought of that, but I have brass (500) and bullets, I have access to a buddies Rock Chucker and I have primers. Large pistol. The big reason is the nephew. He does not like recoil and I'm trying to get him into handgun hunting. Thank you for the input Doc, Uncle CoCo.

Coco, Thanks for the PS.... If you had the SRH converted you would be the only guy on the block with one. Like Doc said if you really want one then go for it, however, you would need a custom cylinder and barrel and I know that would cost. Another option is a Freedom Arms model 83 in 41mag. I agree with John Taffin when he said its the most accurate handgun he ever shot, plus it can be handloaded to carbine velocities with XTP`s and A-frames. If you can`t find a used one and had to order one from the factory I`am sure the wait would not be as long as having the custom work. The recoil on my FA`s 41 is not bad and with factory ammo the gun just about jumps. If you have any questions you can always send a PM....These are my 41`s and all shoot great. There is also the Ruger Blackhawk

This is the best 100yd three shot group I have ever shot with a revolver. This was from my Freedom Arms m-83 in 41 shooting a 210XTP and AA#9....

I forgot to put in my above note I have a Redhawk cylinder and crane new. Bought a couple of years ago cheaply for this project. So cost would be a new barrel. Sorry... I"m thinking also the barrel I might just have to have it slab sided for a distinct look!!!!!! Thanks, James for your input. Any other comments from this wonderful group. You guys are friendly and have some of the best advice. CoCo.

Id go strictly with the aframes and second the fa comment, but if ya go the ruger way use a 5 shot cyclinder and ya can load up to and even above casull pressures if they use the right steel. I have some ceb 41 mag solids i would use this summer on big stuff in africa but it didnt come in on time.

some added information...... I recently meet a gentleman from Idaho who took a Shiras moose with, I believe, a 250gr WN cast bullet with a front chest that penetrated 90% of the body using a Redhawk in 41 mag... Don`t be surprised if one of the members happens to take a Cape buff with a 41 mag in the future.....

I was with the guy that James mentions taking the bull moose with the 41 maggie & the 250 gr. WFN. The bull was facing us at about 65 yds I think & it was straight on. I whispered to shootat the "V" at the base of the throat & thats exactly where he placed the cast slug. The bull whirled & we started up the ridge but only went 20 yds & cought hear him gurgling, by the time we got to him he was dead. He had only covered maybe 20 yds, the slug had went through base of the throat right where the wind pipe is at, into the top of the heart, got one lung, passed through the diaphram & back somewhere into the guts, we never found the slug but it had to penetrate something like 5 feet of tissue. A 250 gr. slug from a 41 maggie gives up very little to a 250 gr. slug in a 44 maggie. As James mentions, AA9 is a great powder for top end loads in the 41. My friends load was 17 grs. of 2400, not a max load but the moose felt like it was plenty.

Not a lot of difference between a .410 250 grain and a .429 250 grain in terms of performance. The 41 will do the job. Good job on the moose.

This is a couple of Texas Javelina I shot back in 07 with my OM 41 shorty using a 230 gr. Keith slug & 17 grs. of 2400. After shooting the first one I made a quick blast on my varmint call & the big boar just about ate my pant leg off, he was in on me before I could put the call back in my pocket. I calmed him down pretty quick with the 41 maggie. This is a large cow elk taken with a 5 1/2" Bisley 41 maggie & a 250 gr. WFN at about 74 yds, one shot broke both front shoulders & exited, she dropped at the shot. Don't sell the 41 short, when its loaded with a 250 gr. cast slug it gives up very little to a 250 gr. slug in the 44. Dick

Another .41 mag fan here. I have seen very little that I wouldn't do with a .41. My son has a custom built on a Blackhawk that will give any revolver a run for the money at 100 yards. There are very few .41s that don't shoot well and then you get the occasional tack driver like James's FA. Here is Matt with his first handgun kill. .41 magnum. You can tell by the grin he was hooked.

I was a handgun hunter, when handgun wasn't cool.....
