Friday I bought a brand new S&W 629, out of the box it was shooting 12" to the left, this is at 25 yards, I have adjusted the rear sight to where it"s 1/8" to the right, it"s almost off the gun, seems excessive to me, any ideas?

Does the barrel look like it's on there straight? I've seen guns that had the barrel either screwed in too far or not far enough and the front sight canted accordingly.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Rack,

If you want to check out the S&W forums, you will find that canted barrels are more common with S&W these days. I lucked out with my last S&W, and they got my barrel on correctly. They seem to have a tolerance range on "straightness", but my personal opinion is that a rear sight should only need a few clicks either way to be "correct". If you have a rear sight adjusted all the way to one side or the other, it will slow you down when picking up the sights. besides looking like heck....

Good luck with it,

Craig
