Well, I have been reading various stuff on handgun hunting for about 2 years now. Last year I took my 44 mag to deer camp but never used it for fear of not being ready enough. This year will be a different story, First I will be leaving my rifles at home and only going to carry my 44. Also I have started shooting my 44 a lot more, shooting a few times a week between now and deer season I should be ready. No excuses, Just going to get it done.

That's great! Good luck this coming season. I, too, am still trying to get my first handgun kill.

Thanks guys. I have a 7.5" SBH. Right now I'm shooting some cast 240swc. But for hunting I will probably load up some 240 xtp pushed by some H110.

You have chosen a route that once started will sometimes frustrate you sometimes cause you to doubt your own convictions and sanity. But stay the course and it will bring you self satisfaction and joy and meat for the freezer.. Ask about any question and you will get answers or at least opinions and use what you think will work for you.I don't think anyone here will mislead you, but we are a diverse group and all have our likes and disliikes, what works for us may not work for you. You have chosen a good one to start with so practice ,practice, practice, and show pictures of what you get. :)Welcome to the addiction!

I agree with everything that has been said so far, but I would like to give you something to think about. Looking back at your previous deer kills how many were out of revolver range.
For several seasons I carried both a rifle and my revolver for fear of missing an opportunity at a good buck at a range further than I wanted to shoot my redhawk. One season several years ago I tagged out early taking my two largest bucks. That left me with only doe tags. I hunted the remainder of the season caring just my redhawk and took three mature does. That was when I realized that I enjoyed taking a mature doe with my revolver more than taking a good buck with my rifle.
I have been hooked every since. Looking back over a lot of years deer hunting. I believe 75 percent of my kills could have been made with a revolver and maybe more.
Just pick the stands that will give you an opportunity within your effective range and you will have the most fun you have had deer hunting.
Good Luck this season.

Welcome to the site!!! Glad you joined us, and good luck with the hunting!! You got plenty of time between now and season to build all the confidence in the world. And if you think you're only going to own one hunting handgun, you are sadly mistaken!! HAHA!!!

You should do well, just keep that attitude, get in plenty of practice and we should see some bragging board pics this fall.

Everything the guys said plus this.
I noticed you are from OK. Why wait till deer season to put a few notches on your gun why not do some target practice on a few coyotes or hogs. Unless they all are eradicated in your area?

I agree with dvan, hog hunting is great practice and confidence builder. Plus it's a lot of fun. I don't think you can kill enough of them.

I plan on doing some hog hunting. And I agree you can't kill enough of them. The damage they cause is unreal.
