does anybody use an r8 for hunting? i bought one for home defense and range and it never occured to me that it might be a good hunting handgun till i ran across a reference to it in another forum.

I don't have an R8, but I have been known to hunt deer and other critters with a .357 magnum on occasion.

I had a scoped model 28 that shot very well. Never hunted with it. I also have several other open sight 28's all shot cast bullets well.

You could buy a nice older 28 and scope it for half what an R8 cost.


If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

I don't have an R8 but I actually just picked up a really nice S&W 386 7 shot in 357 mag last week. Kinda getting excited about working with that to see how well I shoot it. If it shoots well I think I will ry to take a deer with it this fall.

Put a scope or dot sight on it, and with the right loads I bet it would get the job done.
