I don't have any feedbackfrom personal experience, but can tell you your combo is a very popular choice, so that must mean something!
Welcome back to handgun hunting, & welcome to the board.

medic404,
The 454 shoot do about anything you want for Handgun hunting. Used to have a FA 454 , and really liked it.
Used the 300 grain Hornady XTP's.

I have a pair of SRH 454's and am VERY happy with both. I have a Encore barrel as well and the added weight of the SRH's helps greatly in recoil reduction. I have 4x Leupold scopes on all of them, having destroyed a tasco and a swift on my first 454 and no problems whatsoever with the Leupold scope's leads me to recoomend them for the biggest and baddest. I shoot a 325gr cast over a healthy dose of H-110 and have really had some accuracy amaze folks that have watched and shot them.

I've never shot a .454, but I do own a Ruger Super Redhawk in .44 mag and carried it this evening on a deer hunt - got skunked. Anyway, I'm very pleased with the Super Redhawk. You probably made a good choice.
