Hello everyone
New guy here. I have hunted for years. I am wanting another pistol for deer. I am torn between SBH or S&W performance center 629 or 10mm. It will use open sights or micro red dot. Is the smith worth almost twice the cost of the ruger? If I go 10mm it will be either the para hunter or eat witness. Opinions please

Thanks

Money is no object here, buy both.

Personally, I prefer the SBH. Both will serve you well. If the Smith is almost twice that of the Ruger; get two Rugers!

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

I once had a SBH with a 10.5 inch barrel. I sold it and got my Redhawk with a 5.5 inch barrel, which I love. I also have a Black Hawk and a GP 100. I like the single action trigger better on the double actions.

I have not owned or shot a 629 from Smith Performance Center but I did pick one up and handled it at my local Gun store a few weeks ago. I loved the trigger in both single action and double action.

If money is not a problem I would go with the smith or be ready to pay for a trigger job if you go with the ruger. My Black Hawk is at the gunsmiths right now having s trigger job done on it.

Another reason I like the double actions better is the grip. I have large hands and can only get two fingers on the original black hawk grip so I added a set of Houge grips to it.

Welcome to this site. There are many people here who know much more about handguns than I do so enjoy the feed back.

hunted and shot a dan wesson 44 for years. vary vary seldom did i use D/A. had to let the gun go, and when it was time to get another 44 it was the super blackhawk. in fact i bought the gun at work sight unseen and it turned out to be a redhawk. a friend knowing i wanted S/A swapped with me and i got what i wanted in the end. having said all that its had to beat a preformance center 629. if its going to have a steady diet of heavy loads i would go with the ruger. most important go with what speaks to your soul. $ and even how well you shoot one or the other matters less than if it speaks to you.

The last Performance Center 629 I tested was no more accurate than the last Super Blackhawk I tested at a fraction of the cost. Another benefit of the Ruger is that it can eat a steady diet of heavy loads without any adverse effects.

I love a smith and wesson trigger, my 3 smiths have the three best triggers ive ever used. that said, i can get around a trigger not as good in a number of ways. I can do nothing for the smith's inability to digest heavy loads with no ill effect
