Hi, been awhile since I've posted. I just purchased an S&W model 57 4". It is in very good condition and I really couldn't help myself when I saw it. I am asking the guys that shoot the .41 magnum or the S&W model 57. I've heard or read some S&Ws don't like cast bullets. I currently do not cast my own so I was going to pick up some Mo Bullet Company bullets with a BH of 18. Its the N prefix if that matters.

Shawn, I picked up some Mt. Baldy 220gr. Keith bullets for my 4" model 58 and found them to be an accurate round for that gun....

James, thanks for the reply. I've read nothing but good about the Mt Baldy bullets but their web site is down. Not sure where they have gone but some are asking on other web sites. I'll just try some different brands. I live close to the Mo Bullet Company so I'll buy a 500 round box and try them. If they don't shoot well I will be forced to add guns to the collection until I find one that shoots them.

l cast 41 Mag bullets using a Saeco 220gr fp mold and also a lyman 210gr swc... l use these in a SW m657 and a TC Contender 41mag.. Both bullets shoot great using 2400 or Unique..Either bullet/load combo will topple those 55 pound steel IHMSA Rams @ 200 meters....
And most anything running around the woods here in South Carolina

Around 20 years ago, in an effort to determine which heavy bullet I wanted for my two 41's, I tested nine different heavy cast bullets in my Ruger Blackhawk and Smith 57. I found nine bullets from 250-295 grains and to make a long story short with the exception of one bullet, they all shot exceptionally well in both guns. That one bullet didn't shoot well in either gun. Both guns had already demonstrated they liked 200 and 215 grain cast bullets.

So is a test of one model 57 of any value. No, not really, but I've never seen a 57 that didn't shoot cast well. If any S&W doesn't like cast bullets, it's time to take some measurements. As long as the critical dimensions are correct and the timing and lockup are good, any Smith should shoot cast bullets very well.

Ok, I have a good supply of bullets in Barnes, Nosler and Hornady on hand now. I loaded 20 rounds with the XTPs over 20 gn of H110. I went to the farm to pick blackberries and shoot. I got busy on the tractor and didn't get to shoot any. I was thinking of keeping this model 57 in it's pristine condition any way, to make a long story short, I purchased a Redhawk with a 5.5" barrel in .41 Magnum from a local website for gun trading. The model 57 has been buried deep in the safe for now. Two .41s in a week, not bad.
