I have been trying different bullets in my Encore 7 08. I did harvest a doe with the Nosler Accubond 140 last year but the groups were not very consistant at 100 yards.Even after having a muzzle break put on the groups were just not there. I loaded some Barnes Tipped Triple Shock 120's that were reccommended by a friend. The groups that I am getting are awesome. 3/8 inches at 100 yards. Have any of you used them to hunt with? I've heard a lot of good things from people that shoot them in their rifles but want to hear from hand gun hunters.

Thad,

Use Barnes 53 gr. TSX in 223, 120 gr. X, in 7mm-08, 150 gr. TSX/TTSX in 308. Hit like the "hammer of Thad" ,oops, I mean the "hammer of Thor!"

I've took a nice doe with the 100grain tsx in 25-06 (rifle). Worked great! Deer dropped so fast in tall grass I thought it had run off. I'm planing on using the 110gn tax-tx in 30-30 this fall in a contender pistol. I've been impressed with the Barnes bullets I've loaded and shot (25-06, 223, 30-30). In a pistol platform you need to make sure your velocities are high enough to get proper bullet expansion at the ranges you will hunt, but this holds true for all makes of bullets. Most of the 308 cal bullets they make are designed to function at 1800-1900 fps or faster. A few specialty type have lower minimum velocities. I usually have to email tech support with the item numbered to get that info.

I shot a antelope at 225 yards with a Barnes 110 grain TTSX loaded in my 270 and it dropped DRT. I load 85 grain TSX in my sons 243 and they work great on whitetail. A couple years ago was bored in my late season blind a crow landed 85 yards in front of me and bored as I was of not seeing anything all weekend I shot it with my 50 caliber knight ML loaded with a 240 grain Barnes sabot...yes I killed the crow and recovered my bullet from the frozen ground and I weighed it when I got home. It was a beautiful petal just like they advertise and it weighed exactly 240 grains. I was impressed. My opinion the 120 grainers in a 7mm-08 will be deadly without a doubt. You place it where it should be and you will be pleased I swear by Barnes bullets.

Nope. Never have used them. In fact, I didn't know they made 120gr bullets for the 500JRH!

Just kidding. That bullet (150gr version) is my dad's favorite in his rifle. I've seen him reach out and touch some stuff with that bullet. He shoots a 308 religiously, and swears by that bullet.

oops... I probably shouldn't put "religiously" and "swears" in the same sentence. My dad is a retired pastor, and he'd probably shoot me.

I shot a mature doe at 28 yards last season with a Barnes 140 gr factory load. I hit her high in the shoulder and she dropped where she stood.

Great performance.

I use the 185 grain Barnes in my 338-06 long barrel. Killed 3 deer with them last year. One was an eight point running at a touch over 200 yards. The bullet struck behind the shoulder and exited on the off side shoulder. He wobbled 20 yards and fell.

I'm a believer in Barnes TSX bullets. They are deer killing machines!

On a side note, you may want to try a 130 grain Speer. Those work very well out of my buddies 7mm Mauser. Cheap but very effective.
