If you were going to be hunting with a revolver for deer and hogs would you rather shoot a 240 gr or 300 cast bullet. I like the 300 he cast but not sure about 80-100 yard shots using that heavy of a bullet. Help me make a decision I would rather just load for one or the other

At magnum load levels, a 300gr bullet (25 yard zero) is only 3-4" low of point of aim at 100 yards and has about a 1.5-2" midrange trajectory.
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

Ya, out to 100 yards there isn't gonna be much difference in trajectory. Each will shoot to a differnt POI, but the overall + or - will be less than 2" where it counts
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I use 240 grain Hornady XTP with 23.5 grains of H-110. It works well for me.

I was at the range a couple of days ago shooting the Sierra 300 grn JSP loads I created for the 44. Very impressed with the performance.

Thanks I am currently loading 240 gr Sierras JHC over 19.5 gr 2400 and it shoots well I can shoot a 4" group at 100 yds resting only my forearms on my vehicle window. Anybody have any experience taking game with that bullet?

A 240 gr. Hornady over 23gr of 296 has served me well. A 300 gr XTP over 19.5 gr of 296 if you need more weight. Both will deliver target grade accuracy.
The 255 HC GC from Montana Bullet Works comes in at 1650 FPS over 23 gr of 296 with excellent accuracy but not on par with the XTP's as does the 310 gr over 21.5gr of 296. Unfortunately the company is out of business. I have no experience with the Sierras in handguns. I use the Blitzkings in varmint rifles and are my first choice based on accuracy and performance.

I have shot deer, hogs, bear and elk with the 240gr and the 300 gr and would trust either one. Not much help with your decision making. I would go with what you personally shoot the best with confidence.
