Spotted four boar feeding toward me as I sat behind a tree. My open sight Dan Wesson 44 mag with an 8" barrel was loaded with 250 grain Nosler partition bullets over 23.5grs of H-110. This was a very accurate load in the DW. The barrel was rested on a short folding bi-pod with with the gripped gun on my knees. These boar had no idea I was there so I let them get to 15 or so yards before I made a good lung shot on the first animal. As he turned to run I placed a second shot to the right of the tail watching the dust fly at the hit. He ran a short ways and fell and after I placed a 22 into the brain I noticed something you don`t see every hunt. Sometime after the second shot had entered the rear of the boar and traveled to the opposite shoulder to exit it had turned and the ass end of the partition was sticking through the hide as the copper expansion petals were held by the skin. The photos will show the exposed bullet. The recovered 250 grain bullet only lost 3 grains weighing an even 247 grains... Just added a photo of the damage the first Nosler did,,,,

James, Nice hog with the DW. I had a 10 inch DW many years ago that I used for IHMSA competition. The most accurate revolver I ever owned.
A very unusual story. Full "pass through" with an exit hole but you still recovered the bullet. How can that be? Great expansion performance on the Nosler.

Congrat! Very unique story, James. Wish they still made those 250 NP's.

Never seen anything quite like that before. Nice piggy, James.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Thanks guys.... Yes, the Nosler partition was a great handgun bullet and it should still be made but sadly that`s not to be... I`ve taken a number of animals over the years using this bullet and its just like I said once before "I`ve taken plenty of game with this bullet to know it works".... Not bragging... just the facts. Like Sgt.Friday use to say on Dragnet "just the facts sir.. just the facts"..... photos show some of the recovered partitions from years past.....

Its ironic that this post should feature two items that handgun hunters will surely miss, that being the Nosler partion bullets and Dan Wesson revolvers.. I have four barrels for my 744 in 4, 6, and two 8 inch barrels. One of the 8" shrouds has a factory installed Weaver scope base. The cylinder gap was set at .003" and a white insert front sight installed. The sweet trigger pull along with a stop allowed my 65 year old eyes to make a decent four shot, forty yard group using the open sights. A well designed revolver whose frame strength equals a Super Redhawk and giving super accurate groups...

James, when you shoot as many critters as you have, something weird is bound to happen eventually. 😁

I'm sure Doc has a few unique experiences, as well.

Just goes to show that you can never be certain what a given bullet will do on game. You may have a good idea from past experience but you are never 100% sure. Nice hog James, keep shooting till they quit moving.
