Do folks out there often find that shooting ranges mess up their range distances? I've been shooting at the Oakdale Gun Club in Minnesota on a regular basis for ~4 years now. I've always been plagued by more then expected drop on what is labeled the "200 YD" range. This last weekend some random guy who actually brought his range finder finds out that it is really a 200 meter range and 219 yards long! That explains the extra inch drop in my 25-06 and 223 loads and the extra 2" drop in my 30-30 loads. Apparently this isn't the only range in the area to have this problem and quite a few of the members know it, but they haven't managed to convenience the board of directors that they should change the sign.
Anyone else run into such things at ranges?

In the end, I can only blame myself for trusting the guy who had the job of putting up the sign and not measuring the distance myself. After adjusting for the distance, expected and achieved ballistics match much better!

Confession is good for the soul.
Always confirm distance when proving your drops-AGREE!

I went to the local police range with a buddy and he was shooting his rifle at the "100" yard range and I told him it looked a little short, I got out my range finder and it was a 76 yard range

Thanks Guys! Based conversations with others and the lack on comments on this thread, I'm going to guess mis-labeling ranges isn't a common practice.

Here in rural MN we shoot in our back yards, or on state land. If the distance is wrong we have only ourselves to blame ;-)

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.
