I've seen a grand total of one (1) of these on gunbroker and it auctioned for over $1,200.

Do any of you know of a dealer who has these in stock? I've called all my local dealers and got them scratching around but no luck so far.

Still haven't heard anything from my lgs he wasnt sure if he could even get one. He says dealer exclusives are hard to come by for small shops. Heard that same thing from all 5 of my lgs. They cant buy enough guns to be considered for exclusives by the salesman.

From what I am seeing the pre-release advertisement and enthusiast market demand is making this model hard to find. It is a marketing ploy to advertise before a new model is released so initial sales go quickly. I figure they will trickle into the market and bring a premium for the first spell.

Correct me if I'm wrong here but, the big bore 5 shot Bisley is not a limited edition and is intended to a permanent edition to Ruger's lineup,right?

That remains to be seen. For now it remains a Lipseys exclusive.

I was told by Ruger that they are in production and running out to distributors and they are going to be in the lineup of revolvers.

As whitworth said, they are a Lipseys exclusive at this time. The guns are being produced, just not a high volume production so it will take a little time to get them out there. But be patient, they are coming. We waited this long, whats another month or so to have them for sure

Well, since my PM never got answered, don't have a clue why, can one of you in the know tell me if either are going to be offered in the Hunter model? Would be nice to have a barrel on them with some weight since they are hunting rounds and not "Quick Draw McGraw" cartridges.

The word is that the Ruger scope mount system won't hold up to the recoil, at least not on the 454 model. They asked Jack Weigand's outfit to develop a scope mount for this revolver that would survive, which they did and can be seen in a pic of Max's gun with the dead hog on one of these threads. The 480 is not quite as violent as the 454, but it is unlikely that they will offer a Hunter model specifically for it.

Don't know what an additional inch of barrel length will buy you, but one of the most accurate revolvers I had was equipped with a five-inch barrel and I shot one animal at 125 yards with it. With open sights the added sight radius is helpful to some, but not all. With an optic it's a non-issue as far as I am concerned. These guns actually balance quite well with the 6 1/2 inch barrel.

A 6 1/2" is not exactly a "quick draw" length. How much barrel do you need? One of my favorite hunting sixguns is a 4 5/8" Bisley that does 2"@50yds with my favorite load.

I shot these groups (first group is 25 yards, second is 50) last week with the .480 SBH with a JPoint, loaded with Buffalo Bore's new 370 grain LFN reduced recoil load. I think the barrel length is fine, but everyone is different.

Just got off the range with the .454 version, and this thing never ceases to amaze me especially when I load it with .45 Colt ammo. Today I shot a couple of boxes of Double Tap 335 grain .45 Colt +P loads and it returned the following groups. The first at 25 yards and the second at 50 yards. This revolver has the Weigand no drill no tap base (for this application), Weaver rings, and an Ultradot 4. These revolvers make for a great 5-shot .45 Colt.
