i know this isnt really handgun related but i was wondering if you all could help me out. i shot a bear today 9/8/15 with a 35 remington, 200 grain core lokt soft point at about 40 yards in some thick cover. it was a monster black bear for this area about 400lbs and it was moving at a fast walk, i shot the bear directly in the shoulder, i hit it we seen it roll when i shot. no blood, anywhere no sign of the bear. just rolled into the weeds and cant be found. any ideas where it may be or what may have went wrong??

Blood will show sooner or later. Start making circles around the whole area.If hit hard you should find a bed within 200yards and that may be the first sign of blood and a lot of it if lucky.Don't forget to look up on shot black bears as he may be hanging on a limb dead.

Bears like hogs are notorious for plugging up and not bleeding at all, plus in thick cover they can almost become invisible. All you can do is do circles as stated and try to find his trail.

Good luck, I hope you find your bruin!

In new york you can use leashed tracking dogs for big game. Dont know about your state might be an option.

If he's hard hit, but not hard enough to bed immediately, he's gonna have to have water eventually. I picked up a lost blood trail on a bear once for a friend by going to closest water. Sure enough, a drop of blood on a rock in the open by a stream. Went from there. He was found.

If it were supposed to be easy, they'd have sent my little sister to do it.

seen the bear today while hunting it was walking normal, hadbeen hit but didnt stop it. we shot it, alot!. it took 4 slugs from a 20 gauge. 1 round from my 35 blew half the spine off and it continued to run i hit again in the lower back with the 35 rem. my buddy then shot it with a 30-06 in the ribs and that stopped it. i just dont think the 35 rem has what it takes to take a big bear

WVcowboy Im glad to hear that you got your bear. Crazy things happen in the world of hunting and sometimes they dont go as planned. I can promise you that a proper bullet from a 35 Rem with proper shot placement is plenty enough for any black bear walking the woods. Congrats again and post some pics!!!

Glad you finally got it.

I once lost a bear after shooting it with a 150 grain Core-lokt out of my 270. There was plenty of blood at first, but then it just vanished. The next one I shot, I used a 150 grain Power Point, and it went down immediately.

Congratulations on finding your bear! The one I tracked was a young grizzly, and it turns out he had been shot a little high, just clipping the top of the lungs and going through the hump. He had been hit with both a .458 Win Mag and a 12 gauge slug at 30 yards by father and son standing shoulder to shoulder. Bears are built a little funny, and can sure fool you on shot placement sometimes. Good job sticking with it!

Congrats on the recovery. I gave up on corlocks a few years ago. I dont like how they frag and lose their jacket. Just my opinion . They dont perform like they use to 20 years ago. I have heard they thinned the jackets... for the money there are much better bullets for bear or deer for that matter. Just my opinion.

going to opt for a larger caliber and better bullets. i knew i hit the shoulder, the bullet from the 35 stopped alittle inside the shoulder didnt even pass through, the other shots clipped lungs and liver. dont know how it lived as long as it did. turns out the shoulders on these things are really thick, next trip to the woods will be with a 45-70 and some buffalo bore ammo

The actual bullet and it's construction is so often underestimated...

The 35rem and 358win still take moose and brown bear up here. The corlotk rn is still used by many here. My favorit is 220 rn in 30-06 as do it all rifle 760rem no less but pistols get the call 99% of the time.

Wounded bear are a formidable adversary...approach with all caution! I don't think the .35 Rem. has the horsepower to get the job done as good as it should..bear and hogs have very similar stature. They have very thick hides, and lots of fat just below. I think a better caliber for Black bear is the .35 Whelen..if you wish to stay in the .35 caliber family. I have a custom k-98 being rechambered in .358 Norma Mag on a barrel that is rifled only,it has to be chambered, threaded, and slimmed down, then crowned and blued for a Brown Bear/ Grizzly hunt, almost complete..but, you can bet I'll be packing my .454 casull mag to back it up!

Problem is the caliber. Its either shot placement or a crappy. Coreliks worknom for some bullet sizes and for certain caliber and not so well in others
