Has anyone had any experience with Weaver scopes. I have read that they have fully multicoated optics but i cant find any reviews done by everyday hunters. I looked through one today at the un shop and it looked really good but i want it to be dependable. I have a 44 magnum Super Redhawk and I am trying to get started in handgun hunting. It has been difficult...it didnt take much research to find out the super redhawk was a good gun...44 magnum is an adequate cartridge...determing the best factory ammo and picking a scope have been a nightmare. Any help is appreciated. If there is a good website i need to look at, post a link. Thanks.

A few years back I had a Weaver 2.5x8x Handgun Scope, and a friend of mine currently has a 2.5x8x and a 4x Weaver Handgun Scopes. I really can't find anything to fault with them. No the 2.5x8x Weaver Handgun Scope does not have the field of view of a 2x7x Burris, but the ones I have looked through are just as clear.

I think for the money they're a decent buy.

As per the ammo, I have had surprisingly good luck with the Federal / American Eagle 240gr. JHP Ammo. It has been quite accurate in the guns I have tested it in.

I can't comment on Weaver scopes, but I have a Ruger SRH in .44 mag and it's a nice gun. Looks like a durable gun too. I have a Nikon Monarch 2X20 fixed handgun scope on mine and I really like it. Mine also shoots Hornady XTPs (their factory "Custom Pistol Ammo") really well. I've shot the 200 and 240 grain versions and both are very accurate. There's an article on this website about the Winchester pistol ammo and that stuff looks good too. I might try a box sometime. Maybe one day I'll get into reloading, but right now I'm new to handgun hunting trying to get my feet wet.

I have one of the 2.5x8 LER pistol scopes on my .375JDJ and it is great. Good eye relief where you can shoot from a bench or if you have to you can get a little closer to the scope in hunting situations without loosing your field of view. It has held up through about 200 rounds of 225grn bullets and 100 rounds of 260grn Nosler Accubonds. I like the crosshair set up on it. Clear and has been in a lot of rain and cold with no problems. For the money I don't think you can beat them. After purchasing the JDJ barrel, dies and TSOB base and rings I was short on money. I looked around and through some handgun scopes. This was the ticket. I also have Burris, Simmons, Tasco, T/C, Swift, Baush/Lomb, Nikon pistol scopes. I don't think any are clearer. Some might have more field of view on the higher power but the Weaver serves me well for the area I hunt. I use it mostly on 4x anyway. Good luck

Mike

I've got a review in the works for the Weaver 2X and 4X scopes...have them mounted on a pair of Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter handguns...one in .44 Mag and the other a .45LC. The guns are both running 320gr and 340gr bullets over 1300fps and the scopes have NEVER shifted zero after hundreds of these rounds from each gun. The glass the clear, they are tough, and the price is right!! What else would a hunter need?

Thanks for the advice. From what you guys tell me they are good scopes that are hard to beat for the money. I had really been considering a bushnell trophy 2-6x32. The only thing that makes me want to go with the weaver is their lenses are fully multi-coated as opposed to multi-coated. If i recall right, i have found websites that sell the bushnell for $150 (shipped) and one for the weaver (2.5-8) for $180. So, basically there isn't a big price difference. Another thing that is really messing me up is magnification I need. I have heard many people say they need more than 2x for shots beyond 75 yards. Some say 4x or more too much and is hard to get on the target. They only way to cover all possibilties is variable power. Thanks for letting me vent on my issues with picking a scope....

Just thought I'd post this. I have been getting my scopes from The Optics Zone. John (the owner) and his wife are great to talk to on the phone and his prices are hard to beat. Here is the link to the Weaver handgun scope page.....

Have a 1.5x4 variable on a 209x50 blk powder barrel. I use 2 50gr. blk powder pellets and 300gr, Oregon Ttrails hard cast bullets in Hornady sabots for avg. of 1378 fps over good chronograph. That equals a 454 Casull field load. Zero scope problems w/ my Weaver.
