Can anyone suggest a good elk hunt at a fair price. My hip is going bad and I might need some assistance.

In the case of a bad hip I would suggest a fully guided elk hunt on a private ranch where the hunting is mostly from stands at an elk crossing or some road work and glassing, then stalking.

These do not come cheap, and "fair price" is according to each different persons pocketbook and expectancies. What do you consider "fair." What quality bull are you looking for.

Now a cow elk hunt would be cheaper.

Unfortunately I no longer have any elk leases; other outfitters have raised the $$ bar too high in my opinion.

I am really not trying to get a 350 bull, although it would be nice. I would be happy with a 280 or a 5X5. I am really not trying to set the bar to high. I am just not sure of my limitations to negotiate terrain because of my hip so,I am trying to find a hunt where I can get assistance if necessary. My idea of a fair price would be $5000.00 range. I have never had the opportunity to hunt elk with a handgun. I know a cow hunt would be less expensive but, I want to check out my options. I am sure with the amount of handgunners here I should be able to get some good leads to check.

I did check my messages and there isn't any. I am surprised with all the hunters here I did not get multiple suggestions.

Wish I could help, but I haven't had to pleasure to go, YET. I'm hoping you'll get more info also.

I'm sure there are guided ranch hunts available that could accommodate your hip issues. I have hunted elk for a long time and every one has been in steep, difficult terrain with a lot of deadfall and not very close to a road. When in Colorado, in one area I hunted, I often passed mountain goats getting to a spot the elk could be found at about 12,000 ft elevation with the closest road several miles away. Not ignoring your question, I just don't have experience with that type of elk hunt.

I am not surprised at all. There are a lot of outfitters out there offering elk hunts. I know a lot of them. I do not know of one I would recommend for your circumstances, and I am not at all in competition with them.

Elk hunting is just...well...I...guess...oh, never mind. Let's just say "different."

You could do an internet search for an outfitter that caters to handicaped hunters and turn up something . Good luck.

Not quite at handicapped yet. The terrain will probably determine how much I can do. I went from hunting anything to stalking at a slow pace. [with pain] I haven't thrown in the towel yet. ha ha!

I was hoping you wouldn't take that the wrong way and it looks like you didn't. Hunts that cater to the handicaped usually have somewhat flatter or easier terrain. At 63 my knees are going too.Last trip to Colorado 10 yrs ago made me feel OLD as Hell for a couple of months after I got home.Figured out pretty quick I had to want to see something pretty bad to walk down hill to see it cause at the end of every downhill there has to be an UPHILL to get back.Good Luck

Too bad we did not connect some years ago...my elk hunts were easy and would have worked great for your situation.
